GoPro advice
      #1584208 - 04/20/14 06:07 PM (73.184.8.195)

Have new GoPro Hero 3+. What should I use to connect it to the rail on a sailboat? Traveling to BVI next month and need to get an accessory to do that.

Will the same thing work to attach to the handlebars on my Honda Goldwing?

This is probably what you're looking for. I have it and it works great.

Same mount will attach to a boat hook to use as an extension pole.

If you want a non-plastic mount, then this one might be for you:

Have it used for two years now on the stern pulpit on our sailboat.

I also like the jaws, so much easier to move from one spot to the other with varying sizes, one jaw fits most.

I used the suction cup mount for most of my fixed shots. Works great on any flat gel coated surface on the boat. Let's you mount the camera near the waterline for some very cool shots. I brought the handlebar mount and used it once on a SUP paddle. A short pole for POV and UW shots also comes in handy.

I bought the jaws, will be using it next month on our sail. I've attached it to my 84 Goldwing, works great!

If you do go the suction cup route, be sure to tie a safety line to it. Nothing worse then having it come loose when you least expect it.

I use to ride Harley's......long ago I realized the luxury of a Goldwing and a friend of mine said "don't go test drive one...you'll want one!"....well, I don't listen to well (ask Ruth, she'll confirm that! ) and I went and drove a Goldwing years ago and have never gone back to the Hog and all of the noise...dripping oil....and unreliability that went with it! I haven't missed my Harley days even for one single day! And I have only had to trailer a Goldwing once when a seal when out on the clutch (and that was a 20 year Goldwing) Now I have a black 2007 and love it!

Yep...but now I am spoiled.....I can't go back. My Harley friends all tease me and say "Do you see a pattern here? You gave up Harley's for a cushy Goldwing....you served 7 years in the USMC and gave it up for the cushy USAF" I think they meant all that in a negative but joking way but it is true....I like luxury and I TOTALLY dislike the noise of the Harley ..but most of my buds that ride love that rumble. And, because of the comfort I can ride for HOURS compared to my buds that need to take breaks. Sort of like me and the Powercat.....I have gone back and forth with Sail and power boats in the states.....and started in the BVI with sailing back in 2003.....but...due to circumstances I did a PowerCat last year and I'm not sure I'll go back to sailing again in BVI....I really like the ease of just firing it up...motoring to the next spot and such. BUT...to each their own....I've taken some ribbing on here because I switched to Powercat....but ya know what...that's okay! Now...since I've hijacked the thread...I'll bring it back around by saying...if you haven't been over to "BVI People Talk" at the top of the page...and you have a GoPro....go there and there is a long thread with some great advice from folks on the GoPro....26 days!!

Yes, I was just going to say that before, that this thread belongs with the other one in People Talk. So away we go....

Not so sure River, when we ride with our HD friends, invariably, one of them is on the side of the road looking at their bike...
