Yes, sounds like they were very lucky. I am currently prepping for the ARC Bahamas and the safety classes Ive attended are very valuable and eye opening! Safety First has always been our motto chartering, but I will be preparing our crew differently from now on. Shi# can hit the fan at any time, usually when you least expect it., is your crew prepared?! I plan to write reports about my blue water adventure and hope it doesnt include us getting in the water! Happy things turned out fine for those two!

I am not a sailor at all, but I was wondering whether people would say that these guys did a bunch of things wrong or just got caught in a freak situation.

I read through quickly, but not sure if PFD's life vests were used? Was an EPIRB on board to signal trouble? Did the captain know his bildge was not working and was he trying to manually fix the problem? If so did he radio a pon pon to alert people that he was having trouble and was going to try to fix the problem? Was there time to send a mayday and was one sent? We spent a day this weekend with a 15 year vet with the US Coast Guard Search and Rescue and he said its very rare that someone will send a pon pon to simply alert people of a potential serious problem. Pon Pon simply tells resources to be prepared if the sh!# should hit the fan, doesnt put the bird in the air, but they are getting ready! I am investing in a PLB to fix on my vest, its $300 but if I find myself in the water It will be worth all I have in my bank account! I wont second guess this captain without the deatails, just happy it turned out ok for them! BEERMAN

Sorry, I didn't intend to have anyone second guess him, just since I don't know anything about sailing, wasn't sure whether most people weren't responding because they thought he was a dumba$$ or something...

Carol, no foul in asking questions especially when people can learn from it! Knowing how the captain had his boat set up and exactly how the boat took on water are the questions? BEERMAN

Wondering if it was a power cat or sailing cat? If going out fishing I am thinking power cat.
