Hopefully the last....
      #1609689 - 10/14/14 06:39 PM (72.83.250.161)

Hopefully hurricane Gonzalo is the last storm of the season, can I get an amen?!! I am making my first ever blue water passage to the Bahama's in just 2 weeks and I would like an uneventful weather pattern!

Last week I was happy to find this display at a Maryland liquor store, this will help settle my nerves for a while

By mid November I would not worrry as much about a hurricane in front of you as a front behind you.

I will continue to convince myself that we will have 4-5 days of high pressure, 15-20 knot winds coming from the east and perhaps 3-4 foot seas..........

Rick, with a decent weather window the crossing is very easy and quite beautiful if you do a night passage. The sunrise is amazing. I have done the passage many times. Generally it is a beam reach and a nice roll, have fun.

I've heard great things about clear star filled nights and awesome sunrise/sunsets during off shore sailing, that is a main draw for me. I hope to see several, maybe 3 or 4 amazing sunrises during our Portsmouth Virginia non stop to Marsh Harbor trip. Evan is it getting cold in the Rockies?

Rick, see if you can pull the +/- 4:00 to 7:00 A.M. watch. After doing more than a dozen of those crossings that’s the time that makes it all worthwhile. If I had the time I’d volunteer @ N/C just to do it again. Sometimes even with planning you get the sh!t kicked out of you but the sunrises are worth it. If you say “Pretty Please” you might get the “Professor” Glen A to help you pick a good crossing and trip window. Relax and have a great trip.

we were given a watch schedule, but names were not included ...thanks for the tip I'll be sure to ask for the sunrise watch! I think the sleep cycle is going to be my main adjustment, we have 6 hour watches during day light and 4 hours at night.

Going to be watching it over the next few days for sure. Current models have it all over the place. But a couple of them are not good for central Florida in particular.

Yes - doesn't look good for Florida.

Hmmmm, just when you think the storms are quieting down.....we have 8 days until we start down the Chesapeake, so only time will tell what weather we'll have the first week of November when we cross the gulf stream. Night time temps have dipped into the 30's here in Virginia this week, I will be packing some serious layering of clothes!

Rick, normally you’ll only need the extra insulation until you start crossing the stream.
Once you’re there you’ll be unzipping this and taking that off.
From the Chessy you can run south and west of the stream until you either duck into the ICW or cross the stream. I’ve spent more than a week waiting for the magic window. There are some great bars in the Carolina’s to wait it out.

Right, it really looks crazy. Yesterday it was looking real concerning for Florida, but today, who knows? They are supposed to send a plane to investigate it this afternoon.

93 going across the Yucatan and basically fell apart. Latest does not have it clearing land until sometime Saturday. So unless something changes late this weekend, it is a non issue.

Ha! I am planning to post a report, actually started a journal a few weeks ago when we began our training/prep for the ARC Bahama. But since you mentioned it.............

"this morning I woke up o-dark early in my beautiful home state of Virginia only to discover that our warm summer weather has bid us farewell! With a warm cup of coffee in hand I encouraged our English Springer Spaniel to blindly spring off the back deck into the darkness to take care of business! She returned and shot me her best Halloween season grin!
