Kitty naming competition: Part Deux!
      #1613322 - 11/06/14 10:45 AM (50.193.144.241)

Now that we've selected a male kitten to be joining Miss Foxy, we need to name him. Two years ago we had a competition here for naming Foxy, and there were great suggestions, so we're doing it again.

Competition Rules:

On the line are 4 painkillers at the Soggy Dollar Bar.

If you are the first one to suggest the name that we ultimately go with, the painkillers will go on the board under your name at the SDB, and all you have to do is get yourself to the SDB to pick them up!

Names must be submitted on this thread only! (Somebody already jumped the gun a little, but that's ok. Please repeat them here on this thread. )

We're looking for a name that reminds us of the islands, but is also appropriate for a male kitten.

So here are a few pictures of the kitten... let the name game begin!

I like Rita's Sidney but would also add

Sir Francis

Pyrat after the rum(we have one named this but there's room for more Pyrats in the world )

How about Ivan. I just love going to Ivan's in White Bay. In the first picture he looks like he is "Ivan the Great"

Laura - yes in fairness we'll credit Rita with her suggestions on the other post...

"Malcolm after our infamous "Manpot" He's the coolest cat around

Quito

Sidney in honor the late "Sidney's Peace and Love" fame "

I'm liking the suggestions so far! Please keep 'em coming!

P.S. - I should mention that this Ragamuffin breed is BIG. He should be between 15 and 18 pounds full grown. At two years old Foxy, also a Ragamuffin, is tall enough to stand up on her back legs and look into the top drawers of the kitchen counters, and she can also reach up to the counter tops without jumping. He will be taller.

Here's a slightly fuzzy picture of Foxy standing up...

'they', whoever 'they' is, say that a name for an animal shouldn't be more than two syllables, as otherwise they don't relate to it well.

and also I have found with cats that they do prefer a name ending in the "ee" sound BUT as long as you say it in a high enough pitched voice they will come LOL! (funny to hear the guys do this!) Pearl and Pyrat totally know their names here. I still like Sir Francis even with 3 syllables because he looks like he should have a title

It's true Laura. That's one reason we picked Foxy for our current kitty.

I've heard that cats don't like names with a lot of 's' sounds or that end in 's' like Chris, or Francis. That's because it sounds like a hiss, which they don't like of course.

Please keep the name suggestions coming!

My wife and I just adopted a feral stray cat. She named it Tola, short for Tortola. Many locals refer to Tortola as Tola. We also have one named Friendly Freddie, and a female named L.K. (short for little kitty).

Arghhhhhh Rita! We've been delayed.

The stewardess who was supposed to be flying standby with our precious cargo under the seat has not been able to get on a plane. The holiday rush has foiled us.

The scoop now is that Mr. McTabby Tuxedo (not his real name) will be arriving at Dulles Airport tomorrow afternoon. This will be the third attempt.

Oh yes. Will do Carol.
If we don't pick a name that someone has posted here, we'll figure out another way to award the painkillers. Last time we did a naming contest we settled on Foxy, which nobody suggested, so the PK's got awarded to the first person who said "Foxy" to me at the Annapolis Boat Show - as I remember it was Last Mango. Captain Jim missed them by 2-minutes!

The new kitteh is very sweet and starts purring the second we walk in "the nursery" which is the spare bathroom upstairs.
Will try to post a picture or two soon.
Still don't have a name! Why is it so hard?

Better get a name soon, before it starts answering to "kitten".

Funny! That's how I ended up with "Tabby"...

A long time ago, we almost ended up with a puppy named "puppy".

"Farkle" is the name of our tailess cat in Tortola ( also enjoys the company of Cheryl and Wakumba)..

we have "Baby Boy" because he got stuck with that when we weren't sure if he and his litter mate, the bigger male named "The Bus", were staying with us. Baby ended up being the alpha male, poor guy with his foo foo name!

And a long time ago when the kids were little, one of my highly creative children at the time named the new cat "Kitty"... as he aged and got fat he became Fat Kitty LOL

Put your 5 favorites in a hat and pick one... see if it sticks, if not pick another one...etc....
