Laura, too bad, we leave Saturday. We are attending the show Thursday and Friday. We missed you Buffalo too. We were freezing in Niagara Falls, but had a great time.

Watch out for Crusty Seamen!

(Although if it's nice we'll be on the water instead after all the rain we had recently.)

Just curious, anyone going to the Miami Boat Show in Feb 2016?

I've been looking for a fun place to go in Jan. or Feb. for a long weekend. This might be fun. Were do you stay?

We are staying at the Cardozo Hotel at 1300 Ocean Drive. I have never been to Miami Beach to stay. H has been many times.
From my research so far, this hotel is within 1.2 miles of the water taxi that can take you to the boat show. Also appears to be centrally located to the places I would like to eat at. Sometimes I am all about the food and the sunsets.
Only drawback I see is the lack of pool at this hotel. Short trip for us going down on the 10th of Feb and coming back on the 14th. We have some boat business to attend to while there , but all in all it should be fun.

Where was everyone today? We had a great time with RickG, his lovely wife Christine, Captain Jay, and a few CYOA friends. Give us oysters and beer any day of the year and we were fine.

It was a beautiful day and we caught up with Tony & Phyllis of Mardi Gras at the TMM booth. It was greet to meet sail2wind and Nina for oysters and beers. I'm going to pop over at the end of the day on Saturday and look for a happy hour.

Cheers, RickG

We went on Sunday and visited Cuvee, a 2015 FP Saba 50.
We are chartering this boat in June, 2016.

Her owner brought her up from CYOA (St. Thomas) for the show, and she was located on Dock 3 across from the Show near the Chart House restaurant. Easy to take a 2-minute water-taxi ride over there.

Cuvee is a super-sized version of Big Papa Lulu, an FP Helia 44.

Immediately after we clambered aboard Cuvee yesterday, I was transported back to our trip to the SVI in August. They are soooo similar. Cuvee is huge though.

It was great seeing our long-time friends at CYOA, John Jacob, Captain Jay, Kirsten and her husband. We missed seeing Nancy, who didn't come up for the show this year.

They tried hard to get me to buy one of the two new Benny 45's going into the fleet. These new monohulls are incredible wide and have a ton of room in the cockpit. A far cry from the designs of even 10 years ago. Tons more livable space.

Maybe after I retire!

There's a lot of freeboard on that boat!

When standing in a dingy there would be no way to reach the cleats on the deck... I'm certainly not tall enough. I don't know what the height above water is, but it looks close to 10 feet. Seemed a little high to be jumping off into the water, which normally is no big thing.

At roughly 35,000lb this boat is about 50% heavier than an FP Helia 44.

Thanks again to Colin and Jen for being such great hosts, a bunch of their previous BVI crew were there so we had possibly too much fun, hilarity and stories....great to hang with Capt Jim and Joyce! and a quick hello to Rick and Jay

Wonder what the headroom clearance and draft is on that puppy?

Headroom is 6'6" in the cabins, which is good because my biz partner happens to be 6'5" tall.

Draft is only 4'1" so it can go into a lot of places.

Except for a little storm that rolled in Friday evening,

weather was perfect.

Stopped by and talked to the folks at CYOA on Monday. Asked Capt Jay to explain the benefits of chartering out of the USVI to my wife.
Not a problem for me, but she is still concerned about the change in venue (vs BVI)

Going back down in 2017 and that new 2016 B48 Fair Wind II is just what I am looking for.

Cwoody - you can sail to the BVI (Jost) is 2 hours from CYOA's base, so it's no significant hardship to start in the USVI. The advantages are cheaper flights, fewer connections, and lower charter costs.

All those advantages and more. I am convinced. Got lots of time to convince the Admiral....
I will need to touch base with you at some point on how you do your provisioning.
