Yes it does/can be warm enough without a jacket. Depends on weather, but bright sun and no wind absolutely. But most times when we were off ship we would always take a light jacket. Not that we always needed it, but depending on what we did and the weather. For example you are walking around, did not really need it at times, but then we would grab a taxi tour to a glacier. You are on ICE so a jacket was nice!

Also do not forget to pack the swim suit ... why you ask? Back of the ship hot tub with drinks watching the scenery go by!

We wore our jackets every day except one. The temps were in the 40's 50's and 60's except in Victoria...it was in the 70's.

Eric...we packed our swim suits and never used them one single time.

With 912 kids on board...the hot tubs were ALWAYS occupied by children.

My suggestion is take your cruise early June....before the kids get out of school....or in Late August or early september....when they are back in school.

I had always heard that norwegian was the old peoples cruise ship.....not true on this cruise. It was full of families.

We went at the very end of May. As far as children in hot tubs, don't most ships have rules that children are not supposed to be in hot tubs?? I swear that was the rule on Princess..

As far as the "old people's" cruise ship in Alaska, that is definitely NOT NCL, but Holland America..

Carol...I do not know the rules...bu there were more kids in the hot tubs than were in the pool. I think there were 6 hot tubs...CRAWLING with kids.

We looked at each other and said...uh....NOPE

We had every intention of doing just what eric said....we did not even stick our toe in the pool or hot tubs.

We have not cruised on Holland America.....would like to some time.

We went the end of May on Princess, and there were a couple of times that we literally had a hot tub to ourselves, aft of the ship.. Not many kids on that trip at all. I don't think I would have dealt well with all those kids on your trip.

We have been on two disney cruises...one on the dream and one on the wonder, The wonder and the NCL pearl are the same size.....and I swear...there were as many kids on this cruise as there were on the Wonder.

Disney deliberately has a lot of 'kids' spaces and 'adults only' spaces, so they deal with a lot of kids better than other cruise lines...

I agree....there were places for the kids on the pearl...but nothing like Disney. I saw nothing that was labeled adult only. We did three upgraded dinners and there were kids at each one...and if you book upgraded restaurants on Disney...they are adult only....as well as adult only pools and hot tubs.

one night at dinner at teppanyaki...we were talking about it with others at the table. We were certainly not the only ones surprised by all of the kids.

We were told that many families from japan and china etc...take off the full month of August to come to America for vacation. I can believe it!

Personally, I have no desire to do a Disney cruise, but they do know how to provide separate facilities for kids and adults.

I would rate Disney first ....but I have to say this NCL....comes mighty darn close.

and part of that is because we are more knowledgeable as well.

The more you cruise...the more you know what to prebook...the more you know what is important to you.

Each cruise more defines what it is you expect.

If I had known on prior cruises what i know now...I may be able to rate them higher.

For example....We did not book the alcohol package on Princess....It was our second cruise...we did not know to do that....and Disney was our first cruise and they only let you book wine packages.

Drinking is important to us...now we know...prebook the liquor package....drink and don't worry about the cost of each drink.

Another thing important to us is internet. We have always bought a package on the ship...usually a smaller one....and then we sit and watch the time tick away because it is so slow. This time...we bought the unlimited package....it was faster...and freeing...because we did not worry about the minutes ticking away.

We have also learned more about the room categories....we know what we want...and what to ask for.

So with experience come knowledge. It doesn't mean what is important to us...will be important to others....but it certainly makes it more enjoyable for us.

We did this cruise right....we knew what was important to us...and booked it accordingly.

So to say NCL is better than princess might not be Princess fault...because we did not book the things on Princess that we booked on ncl.

I guess the way to truly compare...is to book the exact same things on each cruise line.

I would still highly recommend Disney for families....they have something for everyone.
