BEWARE SCAM
      #1414337 - 05/19/12 05:47 PM (208.78.53.79)

Have to let all of you know about a scam that occurred today at CO. A pair of young men came up and offered a group of beach goers free drinks if they would say "hi Chris". Supposedly "Chris" had just become engaged and they wanted to shock him and his girl by having a group of naked people pretend to know him. They said Chris was a firefighter in California. The beach goers agreed and when "Chris" arrived with his GF and maybe 10 other people he was warmly greeted. BUT One of the group, a lady was taking pictures. When one of the greeters approached her, she said she would delete it. Rather than get in an argument it was agreed to call security handle it when the group came back from Papagayo. After waiting about 45 minutes and we went searching for the group. They were no where to be found. It was assumed that they sneaked through CO to the taxis. Later it was learned that the group shoved off in dinghies to two catamarans. The security men said that once they were off the beach, they had no authority. It was still a let down by security that they weren't around to stop the person right then and there. SO beware and IF YOU ARE ON SXM and see 2 "cats" full of mid 20 peoples and one is name Chris tell them we hope their boats sink.

Let that be a lesson to naturists who have forgotten the mindset of a textile, which is: Naked people are funny, and any "deal" with them to shock another textile will involve a video camera.

A scam??? Sorry, not sure I would call it that. All this stuff with people harassing clothed people walking by, etc, can't say I'm surprised someone 'returned the favor'..

Carol while I share your sentiment about "returning the favor", it almost sounds like you are condoning this? Illegally taking some ones picture taken and maybe posted who knows where is a lot different in my view. Just saying.

My point is that the whole thing is not a SCAM, and I dislike it being called that. As far as people taking pictures on Club O beach, my understanding is that it is illegal in France to take someone's picture, regardless of the state of their dress or UNdress, without their permission. But in the scheme of things, it doesn't really make me lay awake at night worrying about it.

If a stranger tried to take a picture of me in the nude, I'd ask him/her when did he/she have his/her last eye exam.

From my reading, it seems the people were tricked into this gag with the "lure of free drinks" and did NOT KNOW that someone was taking their picture? Although it might not be the legal definition of a scam, IMHO when you are promised something and then taken advantage of, I can see why the OP called it a scam. I mean if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck............

Kind of like when some people on OB have a $10 bill (or whatever) on a piece of fishing line and have people try to pick it up?

Huge difference! The $10 bill gag doesn't involve photography of naked people, which is prohibited on Club Orient property and the adjacent beach, and which doesn't involve a deal with hidden clauses. The agreement to a drink-for-greeting deal clearly did not involve the photography, which is forbidden by explicit signage, and it did involve deception to accomplish the photography. That sounds like a scam to me.

Whatever, Reggie. It's only a scam in your mind if it involves people having their picture taken naked?? This is a fruitless discussion. I dislike the whole concept of nude people try to run scams on clothed people too.

I agree with Reggie that there is a huge difference between the two scenarios. I also honor you view Carol as far as not liking nude people "tricking" clothed people. But while both can be embarrassing, one might be seen by what 30-40 people max while the other is ILLEGAL and may be seen my who knows how many people.
