Caribbean recommendations?
      #1449912 - 10/24/12 08:37 PM (173.164.246.58)

Wife and I have been going to Desert Sun for 10 years and LOVE it. We've decided to venture out of the country for our first nakation. The recent thread on N Resort got us thinking about where to go. If you wouldn't mind weighing in with your suggestions, we would greatly appreciate it.

Here's what we like:
Relatively small, don't like the gigantic properties
Ocean front or good ocean view
Minimal lifestylers and/or sexual vibe, none would be best
Safe
Private
Decent food
No reason to leave the property
We're not drinkers, so don't need party boats or hopping bar scene.

What say you?

We have been to N Resort twice in October - 2011 & 2012. From your list N Resort would seem to fit the bill. It usually has a small group of people; in the two years a low of 3 couples to a high of 10 couples. Everyone is very friendly, NO lifestyle activity, the food (especially fish) is delicious and usually individually prepared. The service is outstanding! The ocean front rooms are RIGHT on the beach and have fantastic views. Generally, most people retire around 9 or 10, with the piano bar having a singalong most evenings. We are nudists, but most other people are only nude at the pool. We, however, were nude everywhere, and nothing was said. In fact, the literature given when we checked in indicated that it is textile free in all parts of the resort, including the restaurants. (You do need to wear something to go to the front desk.) Take Off with you and spray as about half the people end up with a lot of bug bites. When we get back into regular mode here we will post a trip report and scan the literature we received. We hope to return!!

I have to agree ... Club Orient would be my recommendation given the list of amenities you're interested in.

I would have to "third" Club O. My wife and I have very similar likes. February will be our sixth stay at Club O.

Those that have been to Club O, is there any sort of gawker issues there? I must admit, we did visit the adjacent stretch of beach off of a cruise ship many years ago before we found nude recreation, and I clearly remember the titilation of my fellow cruisers about the nude beach down the way. I have a clear memory of a group of young men heading down to look at the nude people.

We sure loved that stretch of beach though, I can see why Club O would be high on anyone's list.

Club O is not a private beach, no. Cruisers do walk down the beach and gawk at the nude people. Frankly, that doesn't bother me at all. Some people it does. Other than that, certainly Club O meets every one of your requirements and, should you actually decide to leave the property, St. Martin/St. Maarten really has tons going for it. You don't have to leave the property to eat, but if you do, you will find some of the best food in all of the Caribbean. Pretty easy airfare connections to most everywhere also.

I have not been to Club Orient, I hear a lot of nice things about it, but the cruise ship gawkers/picture takers would be an issue for me.

I have been to N and Couples San Souci.

CSS is nicer than N (N is a bit rustic) and also more expensive.

N is very quiet and while CSS will never be confused with a party resort, you can find a party there if one is so inclined to party a little bit.

Both have OK to good food and both have great service (the couples massage in hut on the cliff overlooking the water at CSS is very nice).

Both will meet your needs, if you are a full-blown, 24-7 type of nudist, then N is probably a better fit. At CSS, nudity is confined to Sunset Beach which is nicely secluded, otherwise CSS is pretty much textile, which works for us as we are primarily water nudists.

I'm certain we do not want to take this thread in a direction of "my recommendation is better and my preference to a certain resort is better," but we need to keep the comments accurate and information we are sharing ... completely truthful.

Yes, there are "gawkers" that cruise the nude beach section of Orient Beach, in front of the Club Orient property. They are NOT snapping pictures all over the place and ANYONE that is seen doing that is taken care of my others on the beach and Club O security. The other nudes usually take care of the issue before Security arrives on scene.

Have an issue with clothed people walking by you while you're naked on this beach? Choose a lounge chair in the second roll and not up front. Park yourselves behind a group of other nudes.

We prefer to be right upfront with the rest of our friends. We've done this from the very first visit and will continue to do this because these people don't bother us and contrary to some statements ... there isn't this unabated photo session taking place as some may have others think.

Are most clothed in the restaurant? Reason I ask is that dining nude indoors is just something we can't get our arms around... on the beach, at a picnic table etc... no problem.

At Papagayo in the evening, I would say that MOST men are fully nude and MOST women have some type of a pareo on, often just on the bottom. Regardless, wear however much or little you want. No one cares.

Sorry, should have mentioned that my question regarding clothed dining was in reference to the "N" resort as we are most interested in it.

I am presuming this was prompted by my post above. Two points:

1.) I said I had not been to Club O and my information was secondhand.
2.) It is an unfortunate reality that when you have a lot of gawkers, some will try to sneak pictures which isn't that hard these days with current technology. I was not trying to imply it was an open season for photo enthusiasts.
Photos are an issue for some people (including us for professional reasons) and do not matter to others - so be it.

At the end, I was trying to pass on my actual experiences to the OP since I had been to several Jamaican resorts including the one that the OP asked about. My preferences may not be the same as others and they need to decide for themselves what works for them.

Thanks everybody for the information. One of my wife's desires is to enjoy a beach in the nude, but considering how many pictures of what seem to be unsuspecting nude people on beaches all over the internet, we're both apprehensive to go to an open beach. We have many nude beach opportunities near to us, but won't go for those reasons.

If we decide to go to N, do any of you have recommendations as to where I can find the best travel arrangements? I've looked around at the typical nude vacation travel agencies, and have found that Expedia seems to offer the best deal. Any thoughts for an international nudist newbie?

I am six weeks past having been nude on a beach for the first time. My wife directed me to take her to the nicest nude beach I could find. Orient Beach is where we went.

I too was apprehensive about gawkers and cameras. In discussions with my friends before going, I opined that I wished it were all nude since that way it would deter the voyeur crowd. Thankfully, my concerns were unfounded.

We went in September when it was really slow. We also setup a long way from the dividing line. In the five days we were on the beach I think we saw at most half a dozen people who were clothed and likely walking to just see the sights. For half of those, we were in the water so they saw nothing of us. Because Club O was closed at the time, there was no security, but we never felt like we needed it. The other nudists weren't there to see me any more than I was there to see them.

So from someone who is freshly removed from the virgin nudist group, I understand your concern, but in my experience, Orient Beach put those concerns to rest. I was nervous in the beginning, but that was based on a possibility, not the reality. Unless you have paparazzi trailing you to the beach, I doubt you'll have a problem.

We have used both Denny P. Travel (land only portion) and Cheap Caribbean (land/air packages) for our adult resort travel and have been happy with both...have also heard good things about Castaways Travel but have not used them ourselves.

Sit the 2nd/3rd row. Plenty nice. Sunglasses (with fuzzy eyebrows and node) and baseball hat -----odds are no one will recognize your "clothes". :)

We are considering St. Martin as a 25th wedding anniversary destination. Would like the same amenities as listed by this poster and it appears that Orient bay fits the bill. Our only concern is that the lodging appears to be cottages requiring us to purchase groceries? We would prefer a restaurant on site for breakfast and lunch. Also, are there any snorkeling options available? We are "water naturists" as well, would this present problems at Club Orient? Any other suggestions for an all-inclusive facility with free and easy access to what we are reading is the world's "finest nude beach?"

Club Orient has a restaurant on site for Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner. Also Orientique has pastries in the morning.

You don't have to cook at Club O. Papagayo is on site and serves lunch and dinner and the Perch serves lunch. Not sure if they are serving breakfast now at Papagayo or not, as they were not serving breakfast for a long time. They do have fresh pastries and breads delivered to the store every morning, if you get there early enough before they sell out.

In addition, TTOL sponsor http://www.clubfantastico.net/ is a small naturist hotel up the hill from Club O, which does offer an a/i plan, and the accomodations are quite a bit more upscale than Club O. Might be a good option for the 25th anniversary splurge!

Club O's website currently only shows lunch & dinner hours. If you want pastries from the store and are not an early riser you can reserve your pastries the day before and they will be waiting for you.
Andy & Cheryl's has a very good breakfast and is just a very short walk down the beach (just past Pedro's) but, they are closed on Monday's.
As far as snorkeling you can snorkel right from the beach at Club O down to the reef by Pedro's. Years ago my wife and I would snorkel over to Green Key, take a rest then snorkel around there, lay on the beach for a while then snorkel back. You do need to watch for jet skis and boats.

OK, so I just booked a week at N Resort for our first foray into international nudity and our first visit to a nude beach. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Next, my wife and I are not partyers and I'm CERTAINLY not a disco-er but I'd like to buy her some appropriate attire for the evenings and meals. Something that I can enjoy too ;)

Any suggestions as to where I can find nice resort-type clothing that are enough to be called coverups but not a house frock? In my minds eye I see some tasteful sheer clothing, but have no idea where to start to look. (also, am I right in the assumption that something sexy but not slutty is appropriate for meals?....we've never done this part before)

N Resort is not fancy in any way. It's bare bones as it pertains to NICE resorts. Don't expect much. There were people that still had their bathing suits on at dinner...and dinners were not very good. If you dress your wife up, you are doing it for yourself.

The only thing N Resort has going for it is you can be naked anywhere. Drinks are very good and breakfast and lunch were not bad...and the price is right.
