So what do you (did you) do?

Obviously all of us have an interest in the islands, or at least one island. Without revealing your identity, could you say a little about what you have done job related?

After college I did 10 years as a CPA. I learned real quickly that tax season wasn't a lot of fun - back in those days everything was done on paper without any computer help.

Then I spent 30 years in the sock manufacturing business which ended up being quite interesting - and challenging.

Pretty obvious by my screen name, rural mail carrier for 29+ years. The last 8 years I worked I was on a District committee that oversaw automation implementation and spent a lot of time away from the route and home.

Prior to that I was a pharmacy tech and dabbled in a couple of other things.

Retired for the past 5 years and work part-time for a wholesale distributor of radiators and a/c parts. This job is split between inside phone sales and some delivery.

Currently doing a lot of long weekend travel with my wife and dog that competes in dock jumping. Although this is a hobby, it consumes a lot of time and could qualify as a part-time job.

TTOL moderator for the past 5 years or so also.

I am a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, NNP. I began as a nurse in the Neonatal (newborn) Intensive Care Unit or NICU in 1973. I became a NNP in 1989 and continued my career in the same NICU until 2008, for a total of 35 years. Other than working at a residence for special needs kids when I was in high school and nursing school, this is the only job I had. I retired at that time, now I volunteer at the local elementary school as a Foster Grandparent.

Obviously you have dealt with a lot of trauma. Do you think that things have improved much since 1973? My brother-in-law is a pediatrician who did some training at St Jude.

I'm guessing the drugs introduced in the past 40 years have been significant as well as improved electronics.

In order: USN (4 years), retail management (8 years), letter carrier (30 years), PT driver (6 years). I've also, concurrently, been a PT beach bum forever.

I worked summers in a paper mill to pay most of my college expenses, which, combined with a partial track scholarship, allowed me to graduate from law school with little debt. I continue to practice law in a city of 45,000 after 41 years. I was assistant law director for six years and continue to assist the city in real estate matters. My private practice is sole practitioner, real estate and probate. My wife is retiring from teaching grade school. She worked in department store retailing before that.

The mention of a summer job brings up 2 interesting summers for me. 1965 I worked in the green pea harvest in Dayton, WA for the Jolly Green Giant - 12 hours per day 7 days per week of hard field labor. Dayton is just a little north of Walla Walla.

Summer of 1966 interstate road construction as a day laborer in Wheeling, WV. I was the only guy on the road crew who had not been to prison.

VERY interesting summers for me.

Hey Cincinnati Kida, I knew I liked you! What you do is basically what I do now, after doing a whole lot more 'interesting' stuff in Virginia, like a bunch of criminal and domestic stuff.. Don't care to do that stuff now.
