sumbeach - I have to tell you that I really enjoyed my visit to San Antonia for the 2008 Final 4. My team didn't win, but the stay was a true blast. However I did make the cover of Sports Illustrated with the famous Mario Chalmers shot. I was sitting behind the backboard.

Honestly I don't think that your city gets enough attention based on the fun you can have there.

Retiring on August 28th as a Curves owner. Can't wait! Prior to that I worked for non-profits in different positions. Started as a PR Director for a humane society; next was in a Catholic nursing home as the Director for Marketing Strategies and finally was the Executive Director for a mental health agency. I finally had it with the non-profits and made the change to a for-profit business.

I'm closing my Curves and retiring August 28th! Oh, did I mention that already! Can't wait!

Hubby retired 3 years ago from a large NYS utility company after 34 years. He was an Electrical Engineer working on power systems. He stayed retired for 2 1/2 weeks and went back to work for a company located in Albany, NY, CG Power. He works from home as a Senior Project Manager. I think he's thinking of retiring again next spring, maybe for good this time!!!

Thanks Charlie - it would be a lot more fun if Orient Beach was only a block away from our house!

Isn't it interesting to hear what TTOLers have to say on this topic? I think it is fair to say that we're no strangers to hard work. Guess that is why the island vacation means so much. I know that is true for me - to briefly escape and relax.

Worked 25 years producing communication products (antennas, filters and everything that makes your cell phone work). Past 13 years have been spent attempting to purchase an assembly and machining business to supply my old employer (major environmental issues to deal with). Should anyone need to have electrical assemblies manufactured or screw machine lathe work, please contact me. I will never be old enough to retire!

I was a preschool teacher for many years. First private then a dream job in a public school. Budget cuts bounced me around after they closed the prek alll the way to 5th grade! Then back to 1st! Loved it, but got bounced out AGAIN! Come to find out after all the years I wasn't on the bottom. Someone else was! I left and have been doing my hubby's bookwork/ebay full time! Love being home! Flexible schedule! Vacations! Skiing! Sleeping in with the boss! Perfect!

Worked as an administrative assistant for 25 years. The next 15 years as a buyer for a large aluminum corporation purchasing MRO materials. Retired in 2009 and decided just couldn't stay home full time, so work part time at a small corner store as a cashier.

Really enjoying this thread!

Spent my summers working in a local grocery store in Northern Wisconsin.

After grad school at the U of Chicago, I took a job in mental health for a private-not-for-profit. On my first day, I said a prayer, asking to let me just make it for 6 months so I could get out!

Ending up leaving that organization as the CEO after 27 years.

Then started a contract food packaging business with my husband in 2006 which we lost in 2010 after partner failed to live up to his financial commitment.

Darkest days of our lives.

Went on to help a friend start-up and manage a physical therapy clinic.

A little over a year ago I was asked to join Emmi Roth USA, a Swiss-owned company that makes European-style artisan cheeses in the USA. I manage human resources for the state of Wisconsin.

I believe retirement will be delayed for us, but I still dream about spending 3-6 months in SXM someday, God willing!
