I've read others who said that same thing. I find that disturbing, as it seems to defeat the purpose of the randomness of precheck. When I got it and my husband didn't, he was directed to the regular line. Based on what I've read here, I think a lot must depend on the airport.

"My only problem was that I didn't get TSA Precheck on the way back. I think I have now figured out that it was because it was a US Airways code share flight and all the info that I entered for the reservation at AA.com, didn't carry over to US Air - I think. "

Yes, you have to enter it into all your airlines you are flying on.

I was told the Global entry is good for five years and they haven't decided on a fee to renew. I got mine at JFK in NY about two years ago.

You were lucky! Coming back from SXM I had Pre check but hubby did not. They would not let him go through with me so it ended up being a useless thing as I had to wait for him to get through. We do not have GE but lots of times I DO get Precheck. But honestly I only waited for hubby 5min, maybe 8. Not enough to really make a difference. What holds up the line are the Idiots who think they can go through with stuff in their pockets, large bottles of hair product, water bottles, etc. Sometimes we get in the wrong line- people not listening to the directions!

Three weeks ago we flew JFK to SXM on AA Business Class tickets and we were TSA Pre-approved. It was a snap at check-in right through to the gate. I assumed (??) it had something to do with the class of ticketing since we don't have GE or KTNs and we always seem to end up with it, even though we don't travel very much these days.

Coming home two nights ago, SXM to JFK on JB our tickets were also TSA pre-approved which I don't get at all since you still have to take off your shoes, etc and go through the whole drill there - but what do I know?! On the plane we were asked to complete the US C & I re-entry forms which in the past we've had to surrender after collecting our bags and immediately prior to exiting the airport at the last immigration line. For whatever the reason, the first immigration agent took DHs form and John watched him toss it in the trash along with the scanned entry pics from the kiosk. When John told me, I suggested I thought we were supposed to turn it in at the exit point so we asked an immigration officer standing nearby and he said they weren't necessary. So, if anyone knows, what is the purpose of completing the form in the first place? Just curious as it seems to me to be redundant to have you complete a form just to see it tossed without as much as a glance.

And I think our total time clearing the airport with all the C & I stuff was less than twenty minutes which included claiming our luggage and actually exiting but this was a midweek early evening arrival at JFK. If I can't find anything else to love about them, you can't help but love the JB T5 at JFK and the fact they have their own well staffed and up to date immigration hall. I don't know if we just got lucky but we had basically the same experience coming home from SXM in December. Since that's about the extend of our travels these days, it seems to me PERSONALLY SPEAKING, GE would be a waste of money for us. Any thoughts?

From what I have read Pat, the days of randomly giving out TSAPRE are over. I signed up for that program...$85, good for 5 years. I don't believe the class of ticket had anything to do with you receiving PRE.
Also, last Sat. at JB T5 JFK, they did not take my customs declaration either.

If you use the kiosks, which normally are for those with Global Entry but they also direct others to use them at certain times, you almost certainly do not have to fill out and turn in the standard blue form (CBP Form 6059B). Probably not a bad idea to fill it out anyway though even if you know you will use kiosks, just so you have thought about what you acquired while out of USA, if for some reason you get pulled for secondary screening - at least I fill one out even though we have Global Entry. Then, I just throw it away after getting past customs.

It might be that with you going to the Kiosk for the picture receipt it negates the need for the written form. Maybe the airline passes out the form for the people that don't want to use the Kiosks. Who knows.

Pat, TSA Precheck is only recognized in the US, where you're being checked by TSA, and then only at certain airports. It has no meaning at all in SXM. If you had had a connecting flight at JFK then it would have been helpful when you recleared TSA security after exiting from Immigration and Customs.

Reading her post, Pat knew that. Her question was the handing out of custom forms on the plane when there were kiosks to use.
