We often get lots of rain, but not necessarily alligators.

If we get ANY snow here in New Orleans, the city closes down for the day and the Interstate gets closed because the overpasses freeze over.
With no snow clearing equipment, it is just another excuse to have a party.
I can't imagine experiencing the amount of snow you have to put up with. We would be closed for weeks !!

Well, it's 'tomorrow' and it's snowing again here in CT.

Last I heard, we're only going to get another 2 - 3 inches of 'flurries' today, and since we haven't been hit nearly as hard as other parts of the State and New England as a whole, I guess I won't whine too much. But if we really do get the anticipated weekend storm, we, too, will soon be running out of places to put it.

And here's my major snow complaint. My DH works very hard to keep our driveway clear and accessible as well as our mailbox and those of the neighbors on either side of ours since he's the one with the tractor plow and snowblower. And then, during the night, the guy across the road from us has his driveway plowed and his plow company dumps huge piles of his snow at the edge of our driveway completely blocking our sight lines, and pushes more of it back in front of the mailboxes again. Really?? A little respect and consideration goes such a long way and makes everyone's life a little easier!...

Okay - got that out of my system and I feel better now......

Well, Raspy, had I but known you were hosting such an elaborate soirée, and at such a wonderful venue to boot, I might seriously have reconsidered and considered an earlier trip but it is what it is. Kim and Ken are there for part of regatta I think, but we really do like April and December in St. Maarten. Maybe a little heads-up next time?

I can deal with the town since we've gotten pretty good at figuring out their timing for plowing our road, but you'd have to see our driveway to understand fully my whine. We are eighty feet of straight up a steep driveway to the narrow town road (which is but one of the reasons I drive Subarus these days.....), at which point we need to make a full stop to view sight lines under the best of conditions, before we can make the hard left or right onto the road.

The guy across from us has a flat driveway and doesn't like to garage his cars, but if they did, their plow firm could push their snow up their driveway into their backyard. The problem results because they don't garage their cars for their plowman and they don't want the snow at the front end of their driveway so they seem to feel it's okay to push it across the road diagonally and put it by ours. We go through this every winter ........

I know, whiney, whiney, whiney!!

Pat, I am so over the snow - 3 feet & counting - and we are getting another 3-4 inches as I type! I am not entirely clear why we came back from Arizona when we did or why we are not in SXM right now. Fortunately we haven't had to fire up the generator yet - and the guy who does our very long driveway had his equipment give out during the last 12 inch dusting! And I don't even want to talk about this weekend's storm - how many more times can the town plow take out our mailbox? We're up to 3 and counting. Don finally gave up & just stuck the box in the snow. What a winter!

marybeth,

Trust me when I say this - I truly do feel your pain!!

And I love the idea of just standing the mailbox up in the snow but the up-coming weekend could make the drifts too high for that solution. We've been fortunate so far this winter, though I probably shouldn't make that admission.

Good luck, My Friend.

I feel your pain with the driveway! Ours is 600 feet long, all up hill! Can't tell you the amount of times I've walked up it, leaving the car half way up!!! I send Ted to go retrieve it!
Marybeth, we've done the mailbox thing, too! Nothing like repairing a mailbox in 0 degree wind chills!!!!

I don't know which is worse, the extreme cold or the extreme snow. In Maine the north has the coldest temps in the lower 48 and the south has the snow the rest of New England has with more to come. SXM looks awful good this time of year!!!

Our driveway is only about 400 ft. and now we do ok since learning our lesson the year we got over 200 inches total (we push it back more back in October and November). Here in northern Maine we haven't got the snow the southern part did, but we have the cold. Our temperatures probably will be near -30 tomorrow morning as we live near a river. The vehicles groan a little in the mornings. It is supposed to be right around zero for the whole week! We just need to think warm thoughts and dream about the island to make it through!!!

WE have been very lucky so far this winter as we have missed all the big storms that so many others have experienced. It is snowing lightly today, but not scheduled to amount to much. It has been cold this month but most days have been sunny with clear skies so the sunshine makes everything much more tolerable. Just a little more than a month and spring will be here!

[Begin Snow Rant]

Well we've gotten a ton this winter - pushing 5 feet at this point I think - but hey, it's not like I don't know it could happen. I just deal with it.

What really frosts me though is my neighbors who don't help in "community responsibilities". We share a mailbox post with another neighbor and with all this snow, the plows can't really clear all the way to the curb. This means that the mailbox is several feet away from the road and the mail truck can't reach it. Do my neighbors *ever* clear the snow away from the mailbox we share? - No they do not. I used to cut him slack because he didn't have a snow blower and I do but now he's got a giant machine. Still, he only does *his* stuff - never, ever clears "our" mailboxes. Grrr.

Today, after clearing my drive (and the mailbox), I look down to the end of the cul de sac and see that the fire hydrant that serves the whole street is buried. All I can see is the marker rod sticking up from about 9 feet of snow that the plows have rammed up on top of it. So, I guess it's my job to clear this too. Just because I'm pissed, I clear the other one that's around the corner from my house (I'm basically between them so I want the FD to have access to both if they need to save my house). I guess people just think this stuff happens by magic.

[Okay, rant over]

I hear you and know just what you're talking about.

Just because you have the equipment and you're a nice guy........but at least your neighbors don't come behind you and push their snow onto the newly plowed mailboxes and fire hydrants.

And having the equipment or not - remember back in the olden days we all had these tools we utilized to do these jobs for ourselves......uh, I think they called them SHOVELS, and doing it yourself was called accepting your personal responsibility.

I mean it's not like the air where you're outside working in is heated and you are warm and dry while doing it......

I think we (translates to at least 'I' for sure...)need a dose of SXM. NOW!!

Well, at least you still have a mailbox! We lost ours for the 4th time since all this snow began. And now it is truly trashed - pole splintered-and the box flew into the middle of a massive snowdrift. We live on a circle & the plow drivers whip around like they're running the Daytona 500. The snow is so deep at the edge of the road I'm not sure how the oil delivery guys are going to get to the house to deliver. The joys of living in New England...

It's Monday morning and so far we've gotten about 14 inches and it's not stopping. The windrows left by the plows are quite high. At least the snow is light and powdery. I expect the ski slopes will still be open for the 4th of July....

This morning I posted we had about 14 inches, it is now just after 2 and it hasn't stopped, I guess another 4 inches brings us to about 18 so far and it's still snowing. It's supposed to end sometime this evening. :)
OH.....by the way, another snow fall is coming Thursday into Friday. Is this global warming?????

Methinks someone likes to rub it in! We all have our reasons for living where we are and the snow and the cold - This too shall pass! That machine they have in Boston shows that the snow will melt.

We haven't had a great deal of snow in Madison, Wisconsin this year, and what we have had is spaced apart well time wise. We have the extreme cold for the next week. But what to do with that snow, here if we have a lot of snow, there are a lot of one way streets, they pile the snow in the middle of an intersection, and it works beautifully, particularly for wider one way streets.

Sounds like you're getting your wish.

I see online that by Feb. 15 Boston has had more snow than in any month in recorded history - just a mere 2 weeks into the month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today I have a steep driveway covered in solid ice. It may be this weekend before I can leave my house.

Also saw that the Gulf Stream is on a more north-south path, so we're getting down to 0 for 2 nights here.

A forecaster on a local station says that the pattern is about to change and sees no large storms ahead. There will be more snow but he sees no major storms like we just had.
2 weeks to SXM.....

It's Saturday afternoon around 2:30 and here's a big surprise - it's snowing here in my peaceful little part of Connecticut.

I guess it's a good thing because the old stuff from Monday and Wednesday was getting awfully dingy and dirty and really was in need of refreshing. No clue as to how much, if any accumulation at all, is expected and at this point I guess it really doesn't matter much.

And no, not complaining because, after all - we could live in Boston!!

We are having our largest total of the winter with the storm that is dropping white stuff as I type. Luckily it is light and fluffy. Expect maybe 6 inches. Our total this year is about 1/10 of last year's massive amount. Must have known I'm not allowed to shovel this year. We had a Boston type winter last year and sorry to say, but I'm glad they are getting it and not us again. I'm writing this from Amish Country, PA

Agreed!
Our Australian friends/relatives arrive in 2 weeks for their annual 2-month visit - wonder if there will still be snow!

Last night's snow set a new record for total accumulation in February as measured at PVD airport here in RI.

I was thinking that since the Patriots blamed Mother Nature for the balls being deflated, Mother Nature is getting even.

At about 9am this morning, the local CT weather forecaster said possibility of light snow around or sometime after noon. I looked out my windows and it was already coming down here in Western CT, and hours later it still is. Winter?! Who needs it?!

Sorry for your loss, but last I read only one ball was underinflated and that was put in by a league official trying to cover the fact that he was stealing balls. Meanwhile we will deal with the snow.

And once again, it is snowing here in our quiet little corner of CT but this time the snow is landing on the icy mess that happened last night when the rain froze on the driveway first. Thank God for Subarus! Oh yeah!! It's safe to say I'm whining!!

Carol, it just started an hour or so ago, looking for 6+ inches where the servers are, it's a heavier snow so who knows how it will effect the power. Taking the day off so I'm starting my report!

Carol, does GEBE supply the electricity to your servers? If so, I would be worried!
