Get out of the house. Everytime you stay home with a hint of rain in the forecast it turns out beautiful. On 2nd thought stay home in the tub.

We felt a gentle rolling motion of the long-term S waves here in Orange County, but the Palm Springs area felt a sharp jolt many callers to news shows thought was much stronger than the 5.4 magnitude registered on the seismographs. I knew it wasn't that severe because Cal Tech brought out Dr. Kate Hutton, a low key professional spokeswoman. When it's a really good shaker they bring out Dr. Lucy Jones who provides more emotive, over-the-top entertainment than you'd believe from a geological event.
You can't have an earthquake without Lucy!

At Desert Sun, we (well except for the people in the pool, who felt nothing) felt much more of a longish rolling motion, though I did hear reports of people saying it was a sharp jolt. It was initially reported as 5.9, then 5.7, then 5.4. 28 miles south of Palm Springs.

Regarding the OT, come on out to Sandy Hook for the Dip, bridge-related traffic has been nil this year for those leaving Sandy Hook! But be aware that it's still necessary to get there early on weekends (e.g. before 10AM)to avoid being shut out of the park, not to speak of the lines of traffic trying to enter.
