Heh: I'm bored on a thursday morning. Several posts have listed taking their dinghy around from Little Jost to Great and so on. What's the longest dinghy ride you have ever personally done (I am not saying this is highly intelligent)? I went from Cooper over to the Rhone one day. That may not be so impressive but it was back during the days of wooden dinghy's. Not to mention names, but one of the workers at one of places that rents the ribs says he took a '16 rib roundtrip (90 hp) to Anegada one day. rrs

Last charter we pulled a 22 foot rib :) and put a 160 miles on it in one week. We took it from the Bitter to Anegada and back (30 mins each way). We took from the Bight to Little Dix Bay. We took it from Little Harbor ro Sopers Hole....we took it everywhere...

How long was the ride to Donovans Reef? Or was it just wet? :D

Once drove the 12' dink from Saba Rock to Spanish Town and back to check out at C/I.

Went from CGB to Foxy's and back one day several years ago. Made a phone call to our destination both ways to be sure someone was on the lookout for us if we had motor trouble. It was a very calm day but also a hard shell Whaler dink.

Its amazing how that little sputtering sound the outboard makes while you're in the mooring field sounds so much more precarious when you are out in open water. One of the passengers, asks you: "Does that engine always sound like that?" You ponder for a moment, then say: "Yeah, we're just fine!"

Bring a hand held VHF on even the short dinghy rides, especially in the dark! Those on the longer open ocean runs should also be wearing PFD's!!

If my dinghy breaks down in open water, I'm not sure a hand held vhf will help much. My wife will be yelling, "you idiot" so loudly, over and over again that I won't be able to hear the radio. I think your best chance is to jump up and down in the dinghy and hope that the "deliverance" boat comes by. Then pray hard that they still have dove bars left.

One year, we took the little dinghy from Little Harbor to Sandy Cay. The water wasn't that calm. On the way back the dinghy stalled...I realized that I had stepped on the fuel line...just a little scare....

Where did you rent a 22' RIB?
Thanks,
