I just called Desert Sun Resort and their room rates INCLUDE all day fees. There are no hidden charges for day fees. It is ALREADY included in all their posted room rates.

Right, Sorry, I wasn't saying they had hidden fees. I just think it is confusing how the discount works. That you only get 10% off the day fee portion, not the total of your room rental.

The flip side of that, of course, is that members, who don't pay day rates, don't get an automatic discount (there may be a separate discount there: I don't remember) when they rent a room. This is the other reason to split out the day rates and room rates.

If you are an AANR member you get a 10% discount on day fees. At Avalon you get it for lodging as well. If you stay in our rooms say for two nights, in many resorts you would pay day fees for three days. We wave the last day.
At one time we bundled the day feels and room rates, but then there was a significant hotel tax increase. We split them at that time

I look at my bill after the trip. For example, I look at one resort which charges the day fee and another that doesn't (but charges a higher per night fee). For instance, for my money, I have found that when I consider food, beverage, and a nightly stay, Desert Sun in Palm Springs works out to about $300 per day for the 2 of us. I also find that Laguna Del Sol works out about the same. After all, they are competitors (we live in California and each drive is equidistant). Laguna Del Sol charges about $100 plus the day fees and this works out to about the same rate as a chaparral room at DSR. In my experience, including airfare, going to an all inclusive in Jamaica is about $500 per day per couple compared to $300+ gas in California.

I just think it's wrong for these places to charge you twice! So....I book a room, stay for a couple nights and I'm charged for day use fees as well as my room rate??? What the hell am I suppose to do....sit in my room and not use the facilities? That's charging twice for the use of the facilities in my book and that's wrong.

Maybe you should look at it from the other angle? You are at the resort for the day and pay the fee for the amenities you use. You have the option, at many nudist venues, of varying accommodations - tenting, RV site, motel unit, condo - and you are billed separately for the accommodation you choose.
What you are charged for accommodations should be based on the value of that space (to you as user, and to the resort as provider). Hopefully, there is some reasonable test to determine that value.
Is the room worth $99 plus tax (maybe 10% to 15%) on a weekday night - and then $115 plus the tax for Friday and Saturday or special holiday nights? How does it compare to an offsite room in the area at a Ramada, Courtyard or Marriott? Is the room a Motel 6 special at a Hyatt price? Is it worth it to stay nude and not travel outside?
As was noted, if there are "bed tax" charges for how/where you spend the overnight, it makes economic sense to break out the charges to reduce the percentage paid as tax.
Make your choice, relax and enjoy!

I was looking at Mira Vista as a less costly alternative to DSR, Terra Cotta etc. But you add the day fee of $54 per couple to the nightly rate of $99 plus tax, the rates of all of these places are about the same. I am glad I found out about the daily fees at MVR. I would have been a little peeved arriving there expecting only to pay $99 per night.

I'm only a one time guest at Mira Vista, but to keep the story straight: here's the wording from website. (one time because of distance and travel time from Tucson) >>> *Standard $99/night $115/night *Premium $120/night $145/night *Room rates are plus tax and daily membership fees. Note: Three night minimum stay on Holiday Weekends. <<<
You'd know before calling, and they were explained during the reservation process. And there's a discount on fees for AANR/TNS members.

I'm the unregistered guest who posted regarding I just look at the total bill and DSR and LDS are very similarly priced as they are competitors. I have also met and am friendly with J & E at DSR and Wayne at LDS. Please support these folks by eating at their restaurants and drinking their drinks. They are really, really nice people. We need to support their concepts. Wayne also owns the Tucson facility.
