It was just a bad day. It depends on the direction of the winds.

we have usually found sand flies biting our ankles on almost every trip to GB... May/June/July/August/Sept...
Just slather on DEET... it keeps them away...
It's got to be really windy to keep the sand flies away...
the green flies can be bad also...

If you are looking for an nudist alternative to Gunnison in NJ consider visiting Rock Lodge in northern NJ. Park right near the beach. It's a lake - not the ocean. This weekend Young Naturist America will be there so there are lots of extra activities and people in their 20's and 30's.

We are a family oriented nudist club so bring the kids.

Check out rocklodge.com - You have to call first before you visit.

Brian,

I must say you have had bad luck the few times you were there. We did have issues for a few days last week due to the persistent West winds but the flies do not always come out with West winds. Last year we hardly had any fly problems even with the westerlies.

To the OP - check the Highlands, NJ wind forecast before you come. Or you can do what I do...call someone on the beach and ask for the conditions before making the trip.
