Airline Tickets from Toronto!!!
      #1536575 - 09/27/13 08:36 AM (174.88.217.66)

Can anyone tell me what a good deal is from Toronto to SXM for April or May. I have looked and Wesjet can be almost $2000 for two. We have always booked a package but are tired of the resort setting and are looking to rent a villa. Any info would be great.

Last Feb we paid just under $1500. For two the second week of May. Also check Sunwing if your fight dates are flexibIe. I also know Westjet (probably all airlines) can show sold out one day and have seats available the next at reduced rates. The closer to flight days "tour" operators release their ticket blocks back to the airline for direct sale.

Hi Mika,

From Toronto I would say that anything around $700 return per person taxes in would be amazing! If you read other threads, you'll notice that airfares seem to be higher this year as compared to previous years.

If you're interested in flying from Toronto, then it must mean you are relatively close to the US borders. I've flown down to SXM twice over the past two years, once out of Detroit through Charlotte for $399 return tax in and more recently out of Buffalo through JFK for $530 tax in return. The direct flight from YYZ is great but it will come at a premium as it originates from the greatest taxed land in the world!

Good luck!

WestJet usually has two good sales in July and January and usually those months have proven the best time to book for future trips. I have secured flights from Ottawa on WestJet for $300-500 return in the past, but this year $600-700 was the best sale price to SXM. Other places in the Caribbean were much lower for their sale. I've also noticed other airlines are not offering great sale prices to SXM either as they never have a problem filling all the seats. It is nice to leave directly from your home airport so it is often worth it to pay the higher price for the extra convenience.

When you say a "sale" are you watching westjet daily to see if the prices have dropped. We are from London so either Detroit or Buffalo are options and dont mind those, but you have a stop both ways and the price difference is only about $200. So going direct out of Toronto would be the best. If you have booked a villa already, how long would you wait on your flights????

Try Kayak and setup price change alerts so that you get an e-mail when the prices change. I'm from London too and Detroit or Buffalo are always cheaper and I mean always.

You may be doing this already, but we have learned to watch WJ prices daily, and have even booked one way, then return when prices dropped. Someone has mentioned being a night owl and checking after midnight. Although not May prices, we booked WJ for $950 return for BOTH of us for October, and the prices have fluctuated between closer to $1000 and $ 1500 for the same flights. Good luck. It really is more convenient for us to leave from Toronto, but by May, there would be no worries about road conditions thanks to Mother Nature.

Usually they send me an e-mail message regarding their sales. You can sign up to receive these. Otherwise the sales are advertised online and in the newspapers. I usually book my flights before booking accommodation and find that works better for us. If you have booked your villa now, you could still wait until the next sale before booking your flight. Prices are high now, but often drop right after Christmas for people that still have some money left to travel.
