Mosquito Repellent
      #1598786 - 07/15/14 10:46 PM (209.87.227.36)

Here is a recipe for homemade mosquito repellent that residents and visitors may find very helpful. It is easy to make, economical, smells good and apparently the mosquitoes do not like it at all.

Combine in a 16 oz bottle:
15 drops lavender oil
3-4 Tbsp of vanilla extract
1/4 Cup lemon juice.
Fill bottle with water.
Shake and ready to use.

I'll give it a try and see if it works on Texas skeeters.
Thanks.

Thanks Elizabeth, I'll give this a try. If it works on Saskatchewan skeeters, it should work anywhere! LeAnn

Lemon juice - fresh squeezed or from a bottle

Thanks

Yours is much cheaper (~$15/4oz) than the BuggleBlue we used in June, but Linda loved the fragrance and it repelled the mosquitoes quite well.

Ingredients at the bottom right.

You can use vanilla extract or real and fresh squeezed lemon juice or bottled whichever you have available.

Thanks, we are off to the cottage tomorrow [north shore of L Erie - Port Stanley for those who know the area - there is a local lavender farm we visit that sells product, will check with them for lavender oil and then we will make some repellant and try it
If the vanilla can be real or artificial, it must be the alchol that is needed, but the vanilla makes for a nice smell
Will let you know
