I am curious about experiences with taking the ferry to Peter Island for the day - we (me and husband) will be staying on Tortola in early Dec (8-10th trip, always been land-based). We have done JVD and VG and Anegada day trips via ferry. Thinking about Peter Island and wanted to see if any opinions/advise. We like quiet beaches, snorkeling, and laid back beach bars. Thanks in advance for any advice.

In NJ, but wanting to be in Tortola.

You will get different opinions from different visitors. Our group does enjoy the hospitality of Peter Island. For our group than means a long relaxing lunch and for a few the spa. We call in advance and determine which days during our visit will work best for Peter Island. If you just show up on a day when the resort is full with overnight visitors or short staffed for the events planned you may be disappointed. Please consider most of the overnight visitors on Peter Island are spending $1,000 or much more per day. There are days when the resort takes many of the guests away from the island. On the days when many of the guests are elsewhere we have found the service to be spectacular. We have found calling ahead would better in any of the higher quality venues across the BVI. I would strongly suggest a shirt with collar and a proper shoe on arrival.

You will get quiet beaches, great snorkelling, relaxed bars/restaurants and excellent service. Would advise you to check in advance the round trip ferry cost: this has varied from 10 to 25 USD pp over the past two years.

Woof woof!

We have never arrived by ferry, but we have anchored numerous times in Deadmans. We have never wore anything other than T's and sandals and were always welcomed. A collared shirt should be worn at dinner but not lunch. While nothing is inexpensive, the food and service are excellent.

Bust open the wallet and treat yourself to a mini suite retreat at the spa.

Couples massage followed by a scrub. Then you get some alone time in the suite with a most amazing shower and bath tub and sit on the private patio in your robes and look at the amazing views.

Then order a spa lunch complete with Mojito and then a facial to finish off. You will still have plenty of time to sit by the pool or on the beach. It is an experience you will never forget.

I suspect a number of TTOLers checked
"special gift for excellent spouse" off on
their shopping list tonight.

So happy to hear all the wonderful input. I can only agree with it all and now your experiences can only get better with the "newish manager", Scott Hart, from the Scott/Paloma dynasty and creators of the Dove and then manager of Frenchmans. He is the epitome of guest services and accommodations. Get ready for a fabulous day trip.
