MotownTim said: Appears to be closed. Anyone know what happened? No idea but one could guess perhaps no permit to be doing what they were doing. He had been fighting the government and there was an issue with picnic tables and lack of restroom facilities from what I understand.

Sorry, whether they are locals or not, as JD said, if they don't comply with government regulations, they shouldn't be allowed to operate. (Here speaks one who LOVES their food!!)

I remember that and the owner was making a lot of noise on facebook about how the government was treating him.
Perhaps he has permits and things are in order but I don't really understand how you throw up a shack, then expand to include tables, two grills on land that you probably don't own or lease.

On his personal facebook page (April 18), he posted that the Rib Shack is closed but will re-open on April 21. He then goes on to indicate they were "closed by government" and are "taking time to resolve the issue with licensing".
The petition appears to have been started by a relative or family member and only had 153 "supporters". The heading on the petition also indicated:
"We are being told to vacate public land"

Based on his latest rant/whining posted on facebook about 5:30, it does not sound good. He mentioned permits, license and government among other things in his rant.
If you are on facebook, perhaps you can find his selfie-video and check it out for yourself.

If done legally and with the proper permits and licenses in place, it is usually not a problem.

After 20 straight years of visiting the island and many years with multiple trips I have learned one very definitive thing. Restaurants come and go and sometimes just relocate but there is always an abundance of options, quality and cuisine.
I always enjoy my old standbys if they are still standing and also enjoy trying out a few new restaurants / eateries each trip.
Be Happy! Simply because you deserve to be. 😁

According to the story, the BUSINESS had a license. However, the license wasn't issued to him, but to someone else. Supposedly this is the start of a crackdown with regard to these things. As to whether he is being unfairly targeted, as he claims, I don't know. It does somewhat remind one of the person who gets caught speeding and complains about the others who are also speeding..

From the looks of the power cable coming up through the sidewalk, I would question the legality of a lot of things.
I have no idea the entire story or what the actual truth and facts are, just posting a link to an article I found.

Thanks.

Go to "Dino Arrundell" on facebook (same as before in this thread) and you will find where he says he is reopening.

It appears he must have deleted it or facebook deleted as it is no longer there. He indicated he was giving away Heineken (as in free) and perhaps facebook didn't like that?

That has been discussed for some time now. That was the reason for the concrete slab and tearing down the businesses/structures that were on the beach. A medical facility has been mentioned for there also.
