Planning 2nd trip for this October and "the mountains are calling", we loved Bernese Oberland region and fell in love with the villages above Interlaken, but looking for a different location this time. A friend told us we would enjoy the hiking above Wasserauen. The photos she shared of them hiking Appenzell around a glacier lake and up to a restaurant built into a cliff looks amazing! www.myswitzerland.com/en-us/hiking-and-aescher-cliff-restaurant.html

Has anyone hiked this area? or another beautiful area I'm not thinking of, it's a very small country but man there are a lot of villages to google! Thanks for any help!

When we planned our Switzerland trip we used the forum, myswissalps.com. Very similar to this and so very helpful. Full of trip reports too.

It was our first time and we did Murren, Jungfrau etc. So I can't offer up personal experience but that site is wonderful and has many experts on it. If you give them what you want to experience, they will point you in a direction.

Happy planning. Love Switzerland!
Ellen

Can't wait for more of this one! On my soon to do list! Hiked the Dolomites in N. Italy 3 years ago and just loved it. Looking forward to your photos and details.

Beautiful!
Standing by to stand by for more pics and the story!

Just remember inquiring minds want to know... Do the walking sticks really help or do they just look? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" />

Tom, last spring we were hiking in the Blue Ridge and on a long downhill hike I tweaked my knee. I struggled up 1500 feet with the use of a branch, the poles are priceless! They really do help you set a good pace and more importantly take the impact off my knees!
