The owner of the land and golf course. The "resort" part was wiped out in 1995 by Luis.
That beach used to have a lovely restaurant, bars, water sports, restrooms, and was part of the resort.

I have no idea WHO currently owns the land but one could surmise somebody has to own it and they may view this as an opportunity to address a situation they have not liked for some time.

One our first visit to SXM (via a cruise in 1991) we swam at Mullet Bay and enjoyed a $4 beer at the one beach bar in the picture.

Could have changed recently, but ALL the property including the golf course, known as Mullet Bay Resort and Casino, is still said to be held by the Ansary (Ansari?) family and for sale to anyone with deep, deep pockets. It’s been rumored that Trump looked at it but felt it was over-priced and there was too much Island corruption to deal with.

The property the Tower(s) at Mullet Bay sits on was lopped off many years ago and is supposedly the only parcel that has been lopped off the original Resort property.

Pretty sure you are correct pat. The name (Ansari) escaped me as I had not heard it in some time and had totally forgotten it.

The last I heard, the property is all tied up between different entities - Mullet Bay Resort, Sun Resort Properties and the Ansary family holdings, all of which was a large part in how they were able to shift responsibility for the deplorable state of the property for so many years after the storm in ‘95 that caused the initial damages. They supposedly have political ties all over the world including BOTH major political parties in the US in the form of being large political donors to each one.

Fact? Rumors? Not sure but those are just some of the stories that have been floated over the years and I’m sure there are many more. And the rumors with regard to the Island and it’s politics? OMG!!

And with regard to the open air check-in lobby at the old Resort, I think the open air check-in lobby was created somewhere between 1983 and 1985. We checked in that year in the original indoor lobby as they were working on the outer one and ten days later, as we were departing the island we checked out in the newly completed outdoor lobby.

Heck of a deal. I just saw UPDATE and nothing else. Didn't think to put my mouse on it to see it was a link.

Good to know. I'll pay more attention to those links. Makes it better that way.

Here’s one for the books - Scubaman and I agree on something. I think this may be the third time ever........ but he is absolutely correct. The color makes the link much more obvious so I’m glad he brought it to your attention, or the other way around?

We just realized that in all the years he’s been there I don’t think we have Ever eaten at DaLeos. We usually park in the main lot there and walk through past Rosie’s to where the Towers guests’ chairs are located and only because of real estate, if we eat at the beach, Rosie is closer. Well, that and the fact we love her ribs and have come to know the staff over the years.

My fondest wish with regard to both establishments, but particularly Rosie’s, is they should/would/will clean up their own messes and take better care of their respective beach areas.

Regarding the color of links, Eric had looked at that and as of now, hasn't figured out how to change it. Soon come..

Pat one visit with son & (to be at the time) daughter-in-law, they ordered from Rosie's and we ordered from Daleo's and everyone agreed Daleo's tasted better.

We usually bring sandwiches from Zee Best bakery, so only get drinks from Rosie. YUM! We've known her since the "old' Mullet days...and she still knows how to make the famous Mullet Bay Welcome drink. smile

I do find it ironic that the Daleo guys would complain about the trash...it partially comes from the two establishments. Cups in the sand, plates, napkins, bottles, straws, etc. We have participated in clean-ups. It also seems when locals party over weekends, the tree line (well what used to be the tree line of sea grapes and palms) would be LITTERED!!

Regarding the trash. We have known a local family for 25+ years and have had the opportunity to be part of several "family" picnics at Mullet Bay under where the Sea Grape trees used to be. I can assure you, they took out all the trash they brought in but I can not speak for what others, local or not do as I know trash on that beach is a huge problem.

We take our own bags with us most times and take our trash out as the receptacles that are there are usually overflowing early in the day.

I have also witnessed many tourists, cruisers and others walk away leaving empty bottles, cups, straws and cigarettes behind.

I feel both establishments along with locals and tourists could all do a better job with the trash. Not only on Mullet Bay but the entire island.

For what it’s worth with regard to Rosie’s and Daleos and which one is better, I’m sure it’s all about personal preferences, and as I said, I’ve never eaten at Daleos but for us it’s merely the location of the real estate. Rosie’s is more convenient for where we like to sit on the beach but I’m sure they’re both good or neither would have lasted all those years.

But garbage on the beach? Please, don’t get me started. I don’t understand why people will do the things they do and i think over the years we’ve seen it all but for me personally, the debris we would see along the beach but mostly in the tree lines of Mullet after the Easter weekend was disgusting, and sadly, it was mostly from residents who SHOULD set the standard as stewards of their Island. Broken chairs, broken tables, broken coolers and cardboard boxes along with left over trash from their holiday revels. This is a three day weekend for many and they tend to stake out their spots and camp out and party there for the whole weekend. And the worse part of this is there is a dumpster on the far side of the lot but too many couldn’t bother to clean up their own debris and walk it over. And of course, not ALL partiers do this but one who does is one too many.

And then there was the busload of cruiseship visitors that used to come to Mullet as part of their tour around the island. They’d hit the beach where they’d have drinks and swim and we’d watch them toss their debris in the sand and leave it. Bad enough they did this, but worse yet, the bus driver didn’t clean up after them. The boats used to come in to Mullet a couple times a day (and may still for all I know) but along with their coolers of drink in the sand they’d put a trash bag there, too, and for the most part, people used it.

The concessions along the beach have an absolute responsibility to at least be responsible for the debris they’generate. My personal pet peeve with Rosie’s is not only do they not clean the beach of food service items but they leave their own broken chairs, umbrellas and other concession property in a heap on the beach where it’s visible to all rather than disposing of it in the dumpster.

Years back, when the Mullet Resort was up and running that beach was raked every single morning and it would be rare to find a leaf or a palm frond in the sand. But times change. Sadly. My personal motto is, “You bring it - you take it back again.” And if the trash cans are full, put it in your car and dispose of it at home.

Respectfully,

pat

And don't get me started on the "cleanliness" of the porta potties!!!
ps-Where do the employees of Rosie's wash their hands? I have seen bottles of sanitizer but no running water.

We’ve never had to use the portolettes, thank God!! - would rather go back to the room should nature call. But then, we would never use the old Mullet restrooms once the Resort went down. And I used to cringe when I’d see people going in barefooted. Ugh!

And now that I’ve totally managed to high-jack the original intent of this thread, my apologies to everyone.

That's basically the same story that was in the link that JD posted yesterday, just in the Herald versus the other website.
