Is there something going on with the top clock or is it my device? Sometimes I see recent posts as yesterday but midnight has not yet come in the eastern zone.

Go to your Preferences, scroll down to the time zone. Change your time zone to America/New York time. The list is in time order not alpha order. The default is UTC time.
