It's the same garbage they build in southern Florida. How unfortunate for st Martin!

When they first announced this, one of their points was that the height was no problem, "just look at The Cliff"! Yeah, just LOOK at it! Saw a post the other day that mentioned the "Cardboard Cliff"!

We'll see if this ever happens. We see lots of things that are going to happen go poof!

What is going on with the Cliff? When the hurricane first happened, I recall that the manager said that there was structural damage. I think they are now denying that? How many stories is the Cliff?

Really have no idea, just rumors but supposedly the original rumor that the building twisted is unfounded. At least one elevator is working! But they surely have a long way to go, and a lot of money! I think there' s 13 -14 stories???

All I remember is the interview with the manager days after the hurricane in which she claimed there was structural damage to the building. So these monstrosities are half again as tall as the Cliff. Wow..

We were incommunicado during that time, never heard the interview. There surely must be structural damage, especially now that's the holes in it have been open to the elements for over 6 months. Those metal studs are rusting away I would expect.

Garbage is right. I have pictures of what happened to a friends home in the Blue Mall residences. Not pretty. Complete loss.

The insurer (Ennia) reinvested 80% of it's reserves in other companies owned by Parma Group of Husang Ansary.

Mullet Bay Property got entangled in a web of misfortunes after the hurricane hit in 1995

https://www.thedailyherald.sx/islands/58079-concentration-risk-at-ennia-said-high

Let's hope what happened does not happen again!

If a property was destroyed from Irma/ Maria, let there be a time limit to rebuild. The Government let Mullet Bay remain in ruins for decades!

Wow.....now those buildings surely won't fit into the current landscape of SXM. I counted 21 stories???? All i can think of...especially after the disaster that the island is still recovering from....how in the world will a 20 Plusfloor skyscraper survive in a Cat 5 storm???? or worse....God Forbid a fire in there on the upper floors. I know we have all seen a lot of changes over the last years....myself included....but this monstrosity is taking the cake. If...and i mean if....this ever gets built, it will sadly become the new normal for the island. Progress??? i think not.

Yes, i would think the type of fire fighting equipment available would be a factor in the building permit?

The island doesn't have the equipment necessary to fight a high-rise fire! Isn't there only one pumper truck at the airport? And at times they have to borrow equipment from Anguilla. HA!
