Wow. Great video!

What type of ray was that? I've seen eagles rays that are black with white spots, but never anything like the one you filmed. Beautiful!

Where did you encounter the shark? I've been diving in the BVI since 1992 and other than many nurse sharks I've only spotted a Lemon shark and a Reef shark both at The Dogs.

Jrw,

We saw far more sharks this trip then we have ever seen.

Some suggested that it’s seasonal.

We counted 7 nurse sharks by spring bay.

The reef shark in the video was seen at the Rhône. We saw a couple more reef sharks on this trip. One of which was at tug boat alley.

I usually see sharks every trip. The offshore sites like Santa Monica Rock or the Chikuzen are best. Other sites we see them include the visibles, playgrounds, brown pants and Rhone. We have also seen sharks the last two times we dove angelfish reef. Most divers spend the bulk of the dive looking down. Try and train yourself to look out a bit more and you might see more. Most sharks get within visual range and turn and leave. If you were not looking out you never know they were there. Strangely the largest shark I have seen in the BVI was a big Tiger shark at the wreck of the fearless off Great harbor. Never saw another shark there but he got my attention that day!
If you want to see nurse sharks make sure you carry a dive light and look under all the bigger ledges.

You’ll also see a lot of Lemon sharks sleeping under ledges.
There use to be about an 8 ft Lemon shark who would sleep in the large cave at Norman island

We saw a few off ONB on several occasions. Large Lemon and a fair few Nurse. Snorkelling, not diving.

Keeping your head on a swivel is good advice ! I think I've just been unlucky. Or maybe lucky when it comes to Tigers! smile
