What is the condition of Orient beach? Can you still go there after the hurricane damage?

The beach itself was in great shape 3 weeks ago but there are limited places to rent chairs or get food and drinks.

Hello 48 ... my wife and I were there last month and spent a great deal of time on Orient and loved every minute of it. As ruralcarrier noted the beach itself is in great shape, but the sea grass (sargassum) is still around and deposits itself on the shores. It is less concentrated at the southern-end of Orient Beach (the clothing-optional end). Still windy, and the waves vary from day-to-day, but for the most part swimming is fine.

Three full beach bars and restaurants are back, all with chair and umbrella rentals available. And, all three are doing a great job. Bikini Beach has the largest footprint and best location directly across from the main road in Orient Village. The staff here is exceptionally nice, and for $30 you can rent two fully padded chairs, an umbrella, and a small plastic table to hold your drinks. Clean, well-equipped bathrooms should also be noted here. To the north up the beach a ways is Kakao which was one of my personal favorites in the past. If Bikini Beach is nearing capacity then Kakao is good alternative. Same deal on the chair and umbrella rentals there.

If you're more of a 'clothing-optional' person, head south and you'll reach the new Kontiki which is really nice and almost adjacent to the plage naturiste. Kontiki is not clothing optional (topless only), but it's a short walk over the nude beach for those who want to give that a try. Once again fully-padded beach chairs and an umbrella can be rented there. Please note that a free drink or two is no longer provided at these places like it may have been pre-Irma.

Finally, if you keep heading south towards the former Club Orient you'll cross over to the clothing-optional beach and that, too is alive and well. The chairs and an umbrella can be rented from Cedrick for $20, but are not fully-padded like those at the places above. The former Perch Lite bar and restaurant is now called the 'Perch Bar & Grill' and it is now set back from the beach and closer to the old Club Orient cabins. Cedrick an his staff are doing a wonderful job running this place, and here youTT have the option to have lunch with or without clothing on. The prices were good, and the cheeseburgers we had were excellent.

All of the places above are easily identified by their colors, if that helps. Kakao is still navy blue, Bikini's chairs and umbrellas are green, and Kontiki uses a deep red color. On the clothing optional beach the primary color of the umbrellas are yellow, with some blue mixed in.

By all means don't hesitate at all to come back here. We're so glad we did!

My husband and I just returned yesterday from an eight day stay on the French side. Spent each day on Orient Beach and completely agree with SammyM's description of the current conditions. After first few days it got a little windy but water was crystal clear and really enjoyable. Hope you enjoy your upcoming trip.
