We got the same email so I’m guessing the major carriers are or will be all jumping on the bandwagon. Which, IMHO, is a good thing. I fully get that last week they were still trying to fill those airplanes but it’s a different world - again - from last week. It’s an evolving situation and as usual, all the airlines are trying to keep up as is everyone at this point.

Respectfully,

pat

Hmm, we didn't get that email, and we have flights in two weeks. I did go to their website and learned that we can cancel and rebook with no change fees. Not making a decision yet....

No change fees but you do have to pay the difference in ticket cost, which can be substantial.

Good point. These are domestic flights, so probably not, but you never know. We're still planning on making the trip, unless the places we were going to go are closed.

I checked some fares and they are NOT crashing from my area.

Nor from mine. I likely will be cancelling a European cruise (see Afloat forum) and was thinking of going to SXM instead. Prices too high so far.

Yep, I checked both Delta and AA and there is no budging on price for flights from my area. Only incentive was the cancellation policy but the fare is out of sight.

I had friends traveling from OH to TX (not sure what airline) and due to existing health conditions of one of them, they decided to cancel. Hold time for a phone agent was 6 hours. He got in his car, drove the 15 minutes to the local airport and handled the transaction easily and timely. He also said the airport was NOT busy but that is not unusual for DAY with the fares we see most of the time.

Not sure what the particulars were with their tickets. I checked my return and it looked pretty easy to do online if I needed to.

Fares are always area specific both departure and destination. A friend of mine changed her SXM trip from mid-April to mid-June and the fare was about $120 cheaper (just under $500 n/s...BOS). She is also coming down to Ft. Myers next week on a $33 one way JB fare. Crashing was a bit of a generalized choice of words and doesn't apply to all destinations and time periods

Correct and thank you. A lot of travelers think everyone can get the same fares they get for NYC, BOS and some of the FL cities that have promotional fares. Midwest fares can be $700-$1000+ and with a connection or two. It is not fun nor is it cheap.

Our original fare was $1,700 RT all in for two, with the return leg up front. We cancelled our travel planned for April 9 and have until Dec. 31 to re-book. Checked fares for Sept-Oct time frame and they are double this. Will have to wait until things calm down and more planes are put back into rotation before prices start dropping.
