Glad to hear from a happy Pelican owner. I don't think there are many of us left.

we experienced something similar to this at a resort near Playa del Carmen, Mexico a few years ago...we knew what we were getting into as the far as the sales pitch/hard sell, but were totally shocked when the saleswoman turned angry and rude when we wouldn't buy a timeshare...claimed we had "wasted her time"...lol...and when a "manager" came over, he just blew off her crappy behavior, and continued with the hard sell...we finally just got out of there...(but we did get the freebies we were promised <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" /> )

One time I had a hard time ending the ordeal in Mexico. After going through countless rude salespeople and closes I just stood up at my table in the room with the other full tables getting the pitch and said loudly "Do I Have To Raise My Voice?" They gave me my prize and got me out real quickly.

The best timeshare presentation I ever went on was at the Westin in St John. MJ and I had taken our vehicle on the ferry there from St Thomas and went snorkeling over on the back side of the island and we actually just stopped by the Westin to take a look at the property and ideally the units they had there. We wanted to take a shower and relax in their pool for a while as well. They gave us towels so we could go relax and swim prior to the presentation, and then gave us a tour of the property and units, and then when back with zero pressure they gave us $100 cash for taking the tour that we had no idea we were getting. We got paid to do what we hoped they would allow us to do. Winner.

We do not even consider presentations, if there is something we want we look to the resale market.

Cheers,
T

I prefer the Isle seat

Years ago we too were winners of the triple 7 and we went to the presentation. We too "won" a discount ticket. Two days later we went back to the resort and, after parking our car in the covered lot we went in and were stopped inside the door and asked if we were guests. We said no, we were there to meet with s,didgsd...I had remembered the name of the sales lady from two days previous. the lady escorted us to the sales office and left us. The sales lady in question was not in that day - I knew that before hand - and from there we walked out the beach doors, went down to the beach, commandeered an umbrella and spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying their beach and pools...just like an owner. We got back our lost time from two days previous.
The morale?? Be warned sales people..would be suckers can be just as devious as sales staff.

That's pretty funny! Weird, though, I didn't think the Westin had umbrellas???

We have been traveling to SXM since 1993, and we truly love it! We have been to many TS presentations, and have no interest in attending more, now that we have 6 weeks on the island. What we do now when approached by those eager, scratch ticket toting, young folk, is that we simply ask what resort they are representing, and then we say thanks but we have already toured there. ( yes, recently we say - that usually disqualifies us, and they leave us alone) We respond in a friendly manner - they are only trying to make a buck, but we do NOT take the ticket or the invitation. Try it - it works!

We actually (begrudgingly) endured the (interminable, nasty) presentation. But in the end we actually "won" a four night stay there. I can't tell you how many times we told them we weren't going to buy a time share!!

It was an awful experience for us. Never again. By the way, those four nights "free" stay, which cannot be used in the high season, cost about $90 a day because you have to pay daily resort fees. Which is about what we pay for our nice studio on Orient. Frankly I'm going to flip off anyone that approaches me about this on my next visit.

Did this a few years ago, one in our group really thought she'd win something. Wasted most of an afternoon on a gorgeous day. Never. Ever. Again.

oh my! 50G. We actually went last year and bought but we didnt pay anything near that amount. We did beat them up a bit which made the process take longer but we got a good deal. We actually didnt have a bad time, the guy we dealt with was funny and we actually went out to dinner with him the next night. Oh was that an experience. he is a very flamboyant gay dude and at the end of the night was doing all he could to get any guy he was to go home with him. It was hilarious!
