Reading this thread I have to make a comment. A vacation is not only a change in scenery but also involves a relaxed state of mind free from worries. Vacationing in the BVI under the present circumstances would not be carefree for several reasons. All we can hope for is a slow return to normalcy which I believe will take at least two to three years.

Exactly. In my opinion a vacation should be a stress reducer, not a stress creator.

Owners don't have the luxury of just waiting it out. We plan to go unless they make it impossible. It's use it or lose it. Hopefully having just two adults on a 40 foot cat ( and a four week booking ) will make the quarantine restrictions pretty bearable. Every situation is different. So, yes, I am hoping for very much more than a two to three year return to normalcy.

Regarding the insurance policies, I’ve learned here about Medjet and can now consider that as an addition to our medical trip insurance policy, if we think it adds anything in our situation.
But for the last couple posts on that topic, for any policy the Devil is in the details, for sure...

I attended the insurance coverage by Gowrie today at the USVI yacht show. Virtually but hey...

Here is the info I got from the presentation:
Travel Insurance

Traditional Travel Insurance does NOT cover COVID!

CFAR does. You receive 75% of the amount you cover back. YOU must buy this insurance within 10 days of your first deposit
It costs 8-15% of the amount. It does depend on the value, length of trip, and age though.

Medical Evacuation Insurance is inexpensive. Buy it. Family of 4. $60.00 Traditional insurance does not cover this.

Travel Insurance costs 2-10% of the trip but does not cover COVID

Travel Interruption will cover it in the middle of a trip NOT before.

kerry--when you say that regular travel insurance doesn't cover Covid, do you mean that it doesn't cover medical expenses associated with Covid, or do you mean that you can't cancel because of Covid and get your money back, because Covid is now deemed 'foreseeable'. That is my understanding regarding that issue. It would cover expenses if you are on island and catch it or are diagnosed, but you can't cancel because of Covid unless you buy cancel for any reason and trip interruption coverage will not apply? And when you are talking about medical evac insurance, are you talking about medical evac insurance that covers evac for Covid ? If so, what company(s) are writing it?

Kerry - I am having trouble finding CFAR that pays above 50% of trip cost. Did they mention providers offering the 75% coverage?

About 19 minutes into this video here you can find what I was told exactly on Insurance. I have to look into it more. There were things in there that I did not know and I should know.
This is from Gowrie Group and they do offer it.

The first paragraph of what you say Carol seems to agree with what they say in this video but they also say that policies were changing daily through this.

Thanks Kerry - Gowrie appears to be for expats and those either traveling outside the US for long periods "Eligibility requirements include: Travel outside the US for extended periods of time, working in and out of the US through the year".

The owner bookings agent for Moorings told me that Moorings can provide the required insurance for about $175 pp
