Hi there! My family will be staying in Simpson bay and 2 of us are celiac. Looking for restaurants with gluten free options. Thanks in advance!

That's BS. Why would you say that? Have you had a bad experience?

We were traveling with friends who required gluten free meals a few years ago and we had no problems obtaining suitable meals wherever we went. Maybe not a large variety but something suitable everywhere we went and they suffered no ill effects for the two weeks they were with us.

Respectfully,

pat

Well, name the place because that is not the norm.

While they discuss that among their selfs, and by the way I totally agree with Elaine, welcome to the board Jess! As you can already see, you will find many different views, but Bill and Elaine actually live in St Maarten as well as a few others on this board. But anyway, once again welcome to the board, and ask as many questions as you like!

All I can add to this is, please be careful to whom you direct your responses. I know nothing about gluten free on the island, because it's not an issue for me, but please direct your responses to the appropriate comment so they don't automatically go to the original poster. Things get confused that way.

I know for sure Bar Code and The Palms have gluten free food on the menu having visitors recently ask the question. Just ask your server or call or message in advance to see if recipes can be adapted, many can.

I have traveled with 2 gluten free family members for the last few years, one with celiac's. We have no issue finding places to eat, most of the restaurants have been very accommodating. A few come to mind, Izi (in S-Bay) for one, they make their own fresh gluten free pasta. and have GF bread as well. Also Skipjacks (although I think i heard they closed), most of my peeps just steer clear at the other places, burger, no bun. salads, grilled items etc. Other place's we go Yacht Club, Snoopy's, Tortoga's, Roxxy, 3 Amigo's, Jax, and of course the grilled lobster and salads at Yellow Beach are a real treat.

I will tell you years ago, at Bajatzu (now Jax Steakhouse), my Sis-in-law asked for a gluten free menu and they brought her a spoon. We all had a chuckle (OK, maybe she didn't, but...), Jax does a wonderful job now.

hope this helps,

MrTim

One of the reasons we having been coming for many years (double digits) is that my wife has celiac disease and we do not have problems finding places to eat. Too many to mention. Only one time did my wife get very sick. This was at Al Dente. She ordered potato gnocchi. The same waiter who served us the previous year stated repeatedly it was gluten free. Even the ingredients were discussed. After returning home, my wife contacted them through Messenger. It took a very long time for them to respond. They were told to check the ingredients and we never heard from them again. Needless to say, I can't mention their name again which is a shame since we originally liked the place.
