Hello Everyone, I am from a Caribbean Dog Rescue in the Northeast US called Caribbean Canine Connection. We are desperately looking for a volunteer to escort an adorable little pup to his adopted family in the states! The pup would travel in-cabin with the escort, and we take care of all of the logistics, we just need a companion for the pup to take him along with them on his Freedom Flight home! Please spread the word and reach out if you may be able to help! Thanks All!! 🐾

Sorry, you didn't state where the pup is going?

Hi Carol! The adoptive family is willing to Travel to pick up their Pup, so the Upper East Coast would be fantastic, but we are able to utilize Travel Buddies/Escorts for Pups that could use a lift off-island to all areas of the US!
(Some also go to Fosters & Rescues- given the impact that COVID has had upon travel to the Caribbean, we will take any Puppy Escort offers that we are able! ). Thanks!!! 🙂

A lot of airlines are no longer allowing service or pet animals in main cabin. Not sure what this falls into.

True Service dogs are NOT the same as a pet or emotional support animal and are allowed in the cabin. Some restrictions on size and location of a Service Dog on the plane and a form may be required, but they are allowed IF they are a true Service dog.

I’ve already booked two “Animal In Cabin” reservations on WestJet in July. It’s easy, you immediately become the dog’s hero and it makes your heart grow two sizes.

Not either, the pup travels with the Volunteer Escort in a Carrier, we haven’t had any airlines deny us, even through COVID, which is great!! 🙂

Hi, we will be returning from SXM to Minnesota on January 30th, and may be able to help. However, I see the new adoptive parents are on the East Coast, so not sure if this is helpful or not. How old and how big is the pup being escorted?

Hi there! I believe that would be a bit far for the adopter, but we would love to take you up on your offer to help another pup get off-island! When we are aware of a transport opportunity, we look to find loving adoptive homes or Fosters in the area! If you may be interested in helping out, feel free to email us at: caribbeancanineconnection@gmail.com... Thanks so much for your kind offer to help!!! 😊🐶🐾

We have done this twice for the I Love My Island Dog association. Very easy and makes the trip so much more fun!

Alaska Air restrictions. I imagine more airlines will follow.

And this is a result of the new DOT rules and regulations I posted a few posts back. It is not a particular airline doing this as there are new DOT regulations going into effect which they will follow.

I don't believe this puppy is traveling as an emotional support animal, unless I missed something.. Neither of the pups I brought back were. They were fully paid for and rode in a carrier on my lap or under the seat in front of me. (take off and landing)

Hi there, I will send you an email, but posting here as well to make sure you get my message before we leave in the morning. We were just cleared to travel, and arrive in SXM tomorrow, January 9th. We will be returning on January 30th, if you have confirmed foster or adoptive parents for the pups, we would be happy to escort 2 pups back to Minneapolis, Minnesota!

TinaOysterBay, you would be a hero to these pups. You can also contact SXM PAWS. They are always looking for escorts too. They will set everything up for you and pup(s) waiting for you at the airport when you depart. Here’s a then and now of our boy that we brought home 18 months ago

Just a heads-up. AA just announced new restrictions on pet animals in cabins. Better check on it.

Probably the new DOT regulations. I have posted them multiple times, I am sure ALL airlines will have no choice but to follow them. I doubt it is inherent to any individual US carrier but some are not getting that point.

DETAILS AA for Service ESA Policy Changes

With the main change:Animals that previously traveled as emotional support animals and no longer qualify as service animals may travel as carry-on pets or as cargo pets, as long as they meet the requirements.

AA Service and ESA Rules Starts Feb. 1.

...none of which would have anything to do with the pups in question, one would think, as they would be small enough to fit in a carrier under the seat...

Of course, that has always been the case, hasn't it? Under the seat is like $100 one way, always has been, as far as I know.

No idea on that. Never flown a pet but have seen more than a fair number of the fake service dogs (ESA) flying in the past and likely for free.

Pets flying as pets have always had a pretty substantial cost, and the people involved with this project said up front that all the costs were being paid by the organization. Fake service dogs is a whole 'nother subject, of people gaming the system.

Rescue agencies have been sending pups off island for many years to many countries. They have it down to a science, they know what they are doing. The receiving party pays all expenses for transport. After Irma there was a HUGE airlift of several hundred dogs to rescue centers in the US. Several of our friends and neighbors take pups with them. when they leave.

If you read through the page that the link takes you to, towards the bottom, it does state that customers may continue to travel with a pet in the cabin if they meet Delta's Travel Policy requirements https://www.delta.com/us/en/pet-travel/overview

And again, this is due to DOT changes and are not airline specific.
