Mosquitoes are everywhere on island. More rain more mosquitoes so who knows what February will be like. Basse Terre will be no different.

Mosquitoes on ANY part of the island are a function of 1) precipitation and 2) vegetation and 3) wind. High precipitation and/or lots of vegetation = lots of skeeters. High wind = much less skeeters.

Mosquitoes are also more active at dusk and just after daybreak and are more prevalent around salt ponds, standing water and places with dense vegetation, especially the beach near where the sand meets the vegetation. You can lessen your chances of a close encounter with mosquitoes and their pesky cousins no-see-ums by avoiding walking in those areas at those times and by refraining from using perfumes, colognes, after-shaves, scented hairsprays and similar items as the “sweet aromas” act as an attractant. The use of a good insect repellent will be a big help.

Like everyone else said, there will be mosquitos. They do like some more than others. For instance, they seem to love me and could care less about my husband.

There are some villas in Terres Basse that have automatic mosquito spray that works well. She should inquire about her particular villa or look it up on the internet.

Might get some blow back from this but if you go to the beach, AVOID the wonderful, fun, beautiful bars on or near the beach. The less air circulation, the more the mosquitoes, sand flies, etc.

You must be "hot stuff". My doctor said they come for me because I radiate body heat and to always use repellant.

Years ago I was being eaten alive by mosquitos on St. Thomas. It was the rainy season. A local suggested drinking Gin so I did. They would not come near me with Gin in my system

Worth a try I would think.

Eric drinks bloody mary's occasionally. If I have anything in the morning, it's a mimosa.

FWIW, last year we didn't see even one skeeter in St. Martin...Orient Beach area.

So long as my wife is around, I never need mosquito repellent. The benefit of being a bitter old man.
