If you can grab a western most mooring at Caneel the dinghy ride into Cruz Bay is not bad. I don't know if Zozo's is controlling the dinghy dock, for sure use a dinghy stern anchor if you do go in.

The dinghy ride from Caneel to Cruz Bay is downwind. You might get moist on the way back, but, well, cocktails. The status of Caneel Bay is along sad story. The NPS is still testing eight acres for environmental contamination. The existing lease expires in 2023. NPS Caneel BayCheers, RickG

Just posted this under another thread...
You can get a mooring ball at Great Cruz Bay, have a short dinghy ride to shore (Westin) and easily get a cab into town. We reserved our ball ahead of time with Proper Yachts, paid for it via Venmo and the balls looked in great condition. We liked this option better than Honeymoon just due to the dinghy ride back home in the dark after spending a night on the town.
