these scooter accidents happen WAY too often. The riders need to slow down and observe the speed limits just like everyone else.

Now the drivers of those cars involved have to deal with this. Not an easy event to get out of your mind.

Probably one was the one going up link 1 standing on one pedal, other knee on the seat, pulling up his pants, nearly swerved head first into our car.

We were held up in the traffic for this one as we were coming home from Carrefour.

If the accident happened as described in the article I have no sympathy for the cyclists at all. My sympathy would go to the car drivers because even though they were most probably blameless they would certainly feel the pain of what happened. It’s too bad the government can’t just ban the two wheeled vehicles from the island but as usual, that would punish the innocents probably far than the idiots driving them like real nut cases.

Respectfully,

pat

Well it doesn't take rocket science to figure the car drivers involver had to experience some mental trauma. I know I would if involved and witnessed it.

This is precisely why some people prefer to take taxis on St. Maarten.

The scooters and motorcycles were flat out of control in Maho a couple of nights when we were there last week. First time we've seen such a thing in our over 30 years of travel to SXM. Ripping back and forth through Maho village doing wheelies..holding up traffic by sitting in the middle of the road in groups, and the most dangerous thing ripping back and forth actually up on the elevated walkways just in front of the first level stores and restaurants. We had been in the cigar store and had to jump into a doorway to keep from getting hit as we walked past the Shipwreck Shop. We were going to head over to the casino, but we decided to head over to The Pub and get away from it.

gomer--wow.. How incredibly dangerous! I can't believe some of the store owners didn't call the police.

We experienced a similar situation in Nov 2019 in French Quarter, it did not leave a good feeling.
