Maho,
First of all, thank you for all your dining experiences and opinions.
Next, let me openly admit we are NOT. Foodies but we certainly do appreciate good food and service at what we consider to be reasonable prices.
With particular reference to Sublime, we heard good things about it right after the grand opening and we had promised ourselves we would give it a try, but we never made it to their original location at The Summit, lack of time and bad weather took care of that.
We made a definite effort to get to their second location and we were so glad we did. The general location left room for improvement for a restaurant venue as did the ‘decor’ - tables and chairs that didn’t match, plastic table cloths and all - and while it wasn’t remotely up to ‘fine dining standards’ decor-wise, the food was incredibly good and the service friendly and attentive. So much so I think we ate there three times over our two week+ stay that year. Once you got beyond the location itself, all aspects of the restaurant were to our liking and the prices were very reasonable given the quality of the meals we enjoyed.
When we heard they were relocating to Maho we knew it would be a huge step up for them given the competition in the general area - JAX Steakhouse, Le Moulin Fou, La Rosa, Too - to mention just a few - and IT WAS! We’ve eaten there three or four times since their move and each has been very good. The decor is modern and very up-scale and while we did dine inside once, we find we really enjoy their open air dining overlooking the Maho street activity. On each visit our meals have been enjoyable and our service good. (We were chatting with our waiter on our first visit and discovered he was a good buddy of another island friend. Small world, isn’t it?) And given the location, the prices are what we consider to be very reasonable. It’s on our definite dinner list every trip now. It also helps the location is relatively close to where we stay ergo a short drive, and the parking is so very convenient.
Respectfully,
pat

Ok, thanks. I LOVE French onion soup, but don't often get it anymore, because if I do, I can't eat anything else! I did the French Onion and a salad at Moulin Fou last time and enjoyed it very much.

Hello To All. I assume the Dress code wouldnt accept direct from the beach attire due to New Location. Not sure if you are referring to Sublime or not but if yes, I doubt straight from the beach attire would be acceptable at all. It’s way too upscale for that. IMO anyway, and even if they seated you, I think you would feel very uncomfortable and out of place. It’s definitely a ‘dress up for dinner’ kind of place. Some of the ladies wear not just dresses and heels but even long dresses although crops are seen, too, and many of the men wear long pants. DH felt comfortable in dress shorts and a collared shirt but he might possibly have worn long pants had he brought any. The atmosphere calls for much more than beach attire, IMO.
Respectfully,
pat

pat--long dresses?? Other than what I would call something like a beach caftan situation, I do not remember the last time I saw a woman wearing a long dress on SXM..

I know…… we only saw this on one of our evenings there and I was feeling a little out of place in a sundress and dressy sandals. And it occurred to me to wonder why would they subject themselves to stilettos given the walking situation in most areas of the island but they did.
Most times we’ve been there the females were dressed in slacks or capris and nice tops or sundresses. But that one night we were quite surprised although I should probably add, these young women seemed to be friends of the hostess and management so perhaps there was something special going on.

OK, I often see women on the French side in stilettos, although I personally haven't worn heels at ALL for several years. Yes, could well have been a special occasion..
