Just wanted to let everyone know about my recent experience. As we have done many times previously, we booked a "Stay and Fly" package at EB Hotel, Miami.
Drove to Miami on May 19th, went out to eat, took the shuttle to MIA the morning of the 20th. Returned to MIA late on the 29th, took the shuttle back to EB Hotel and
discovered that my much loved Ford F-250 Turbo Diesel 4WD with lift kit and monster tires was missing. Not towed, stolen! The staff at the hotel did not seem surprised in the least. Miami police were less than helpful and continue to be so. The insurance company acts as if I'm the prime suspect. I must prove that I actually flew out of MIA and flew back when I said that I did. It's a nightmare! From now on, I'll rent a vehicle to take to Miami and rent another one to come home. Very sad!

Wow, that is horrible. Was the parking lot secured at all? Apparently not.

Lately we always park at Miami Park and Fly, which provides very good service and a secured lot inside a building. That might be an option for you next time, versus renting a car.

Best wishes with the cops and the insurance company.

So very sorry to hear about this loss. It should be pretty simple to prove you left and returned with the stamps on your passport or proof through the airline you were on. Don't know what hotel you were at (EB)? but if you paid a rate that included free parking for a certain length of time. I would think that they would have some sort of responsibility for this.

Most hotels are NOT responsible for any actions that happen in their parking lot, including theft.

So, they say. If I paid an extra fee for staying there and keeping my car in their lot, I would need to see a disclaimer in their rental agreement before not pursuing it in court. If they just allow you to park with no extra charges, then that might be a different story.

Good luck. I personally think they have zero responsibility. Even small hotels we have stayed at in the past have parking lot signs indicating they are responsible for basically nothing. Hotel park and fly packages have changed as well over the past several years. Fewer days, higher prices for the room, etc. There is no free lunch.

Sorry this happened to you.

Let your insurance company deal with the question of hotel liability.

I guess, but I assume that he has a deductible to pay. It is kind of poor, them taking no responsibility, when they paid for parking.

So sorry to hear this happened to you. We returned from SXM to find our car seriously vandalized (almost $13,000 in repairs) in the parking lot at the Hilton Newark Airport. Travelers Insurance pursued it with the Hilton to no avail. To add insult to injury although Travelers did pay to fix the car, they raised our rate! We too had a “park, sleep, fly” package. It just seemed unfair that we parked in a secured lot attached to the hotel and the vandalism occurred through no fault of ours and our insurance went up. We did have a lovely time in SXM though.
