From the Magic of the Caribbean Facebook page, information from a government press conference:
As of October 15, 2022, C-Insurance will be an OPTION and no longer mandatory in order to travel to St. Maarten πΈπ½ Residents will also no longer be required to test in order to enter the island. EHAS will end in early 2023.l
More Cruise Ship Calls will come to Port St. Maarten. Be ready for High Season!

That is good news. I always considered it a government boondoggle. Hopefully this has also ended any talk of some kind of permanent insurance requirement.

EHAS has caused stress to travelers going to SXM and I am surprised to know that they would drop such a cash cow?

Probably will make more money from increased tourism than the 15 per head.

Actually, that's not the same link. They are a day apart.
The one Carol referred to talked mostly about ending the compulsory Covid-19 insurance and only mentioned that the EHAS requirement was scheduled to end sometime early in 2023. The one posted by @Bahston specifically refers to the proposed end date for the EHAS app being March 2023.
Good news, but unfortunately no help to me for my mid-January trip to the island.

Yes, different stories. If you are vaccinated, EHAS approval is basically not a big deal anymore, especially since they are doing away with the required BS insurance.

Yeah, not concerned with the EHAS app, since I'm fully vaxxed and boosted, but again it would be even nicer to be able to eliminate that one extra step!
