Looking for recent info on economical monthly rentals either in or with quick access to Orient area. Clean and safe with a King bed are the only requirements. Will have a car.

If you don't mind walking to a parking area and going up and down some steep terrain to get there, Mont Vernon is a decent economical place to stay. They have a nice brand new pool and some accommodations are pretty decent.
Several of the rentals are studio apartments and some have great views of the ocean. The rent is $100 something per night typically. Pretty easy drive to Orient and can even walk about a mile along the beach to get there. Just get home before dark If you decide to walk.

I agree with Steve about Mt Vernon, but only if you don’t mind walking. We stayed there a few times and really enjoyed it. Now we stay in Orient Village. We have rented different condos through Island Escapes Sxm and have been very happy. You can check out their properties and locate most of them on a map available on their website.

Yes, thanks for Mt Vernon suggestion and we’ve stayed there and it is fine. Looking for a more monthly rate than the typical 100/night or 3000/month which i realize is still good. Hoping for something a tad cheaper to pay the food/spirits bill.

I would still look into Mt Vernon. I know that there are people that work on island that stay there long term. Make inquiries with different owners and see if they have long term rates.

Agree, probably get a monthly break over the already reasonable weekly rates at MV. But with the GCBC incident, maybe we’ll just take a cheap cruise and stay on the ship.

A cheap cruise is probably worse

Ugh, never had an issue strolling from my cabin to the dining room.

Mount Vernon comes to my mind first we stayed there about 7 years ago. Rent was affordable but the location has a few drawbacks. we felt a little out of it up there and hauling groceries from the car was a pain. In Orient Bay there are low cost rentals most are further from the beach and restaurants but if you have a car that wont be a big issue. We have been staying 2 to 3 months now that my wife retired and found that all places will reduce rates for longer stays. A place that fits you needs is the Shamrock Hotel first left after the guard shack. we toured it about 6 years ago and it was kind of unique and very affordable then.

Thanks for this Shamrock Hotel recommendation, first i have ever heard of it. Is it a hotel or more an Airbnb. Something called Shamrock shows up at Booking.com and Airbnb. Do you have a link?
Mt Vernon is great once in the room. Each time you return is a spin of the roulette wheel to get a spot near the top or down in the lot with the walk. We learned to be ready for anything and as you mentioned with luggage/groceries. Definitely go down hill.
Maybe I will proposed being a golf cart valet.

It is a hotel but they may be booking on air b&B too. They have a Facebook page and a website link that doesn't work.
