Apple Bay, Tortola - could stay at Mal's (Manpot's) CRC or at Sebastians.

just curious - when? and for how many days?
It will affect the beaches to use, etc

Sadly, today, met some folks who have arrived for a 5 day (land) stay - and that includes travel

As we all know - there is no justice can be had in 5 short days

My two favorites beaches are Savannah on Virgin Gorda and Loblolly on Anegada.

Re Apple Bay..you are away from the cruise ship craziness..you have three restaurants and bars within walking distance..you are just over the hill from Long Bay..Smuggler's Cove is a short drive and CGB is less than ten mins away to head to after the cruisers leave..plus Soper's is seven mins away with four restaurnts ( and a couple of the very best on the islands..The Clubhouse and Scaramouche) and a very good supermarket..

For all the reasons Malcolm just mentioned we are going back in a month for our fourth straight year staying at CRC.
Anne and I can't wait to get there.

As others have suggested, Apple Bay is great, but better in the summer when it can be assured there is beach. Should be beach in front of Sebastian's though, regardless of when you're going. Not sure when you're going. I personally love Big Apple, as it is very comfortable and well equipped and has a/c in the bedrooms. I personally can't sleep without a/c. I love Big Apple Down, which has a great patio and walk straight out on the sand, plus full kitchen, grill, etc!! Enjoy!

If you have to have A/C CRC is not for you. We have talked to our regulars about putting it in and they all say "no" to a daily increase to cover it. Trade winds and fans do it for us but realise "each to his or her own".

Obviously, different people have different needs and I am willing to pay extra for a/c. Other people don't need it.

Can't wait to get there and have that first Red Stripe on the patio. As far as AC goes I can't sleep in the hot humid summer in Minnesota with out it, but with the fans and trade winds I have no problem sleeping at CRC. In fact AC would ruin the sound of the surf for us.
To each his own.

Hi

Think we’ll skip the violins, but there's even worse deep freeze coming. Feel sorry for the puppy trying to do the biz in two plus feet of snow, with drifts even higher (especially near the edge of the driveway!) But it goes with the territory, great spring, summer and fall. Hanging in there until late May. Just couldn't resist that one.

Peace from the house in the tundra

We visited Anegada Beach Club a few weeks ago. Since our visit a year ago, they've built several waterfront "tents" that sit right on top of the dunes with beautiful unobstructed ocean views. Looked like 5 were finished with 2 more under construction. Each tent sits on its own platform and has a canopy bed, bathroom and shower (solar water heater mounted above the tent). The platform extends out in front of the tent to provide a covered porch with a hammock, a couple chairs and table. ABC advertises them on their website for $300+17% per night. We met a couple from Pittsburgh that was on their second weeklong stay there, and loved it. I would definitely consider these if I were ever Anegada land based.

$350 a night for a tent, seriously? A/C?

No A/C. And keep in mind that you need to get there quick. We were told $300 was an introductory price.

The tents are in an incredible setting and the furnishings are beautiful. Easily the nicest "rooms" on Anegada!!

They sound nice..but adding 17%? That's the Gov tax plus service on top of $300.I think some of us need to look a prices we charge for beachfront..

Not to debate their pricing model, but BVI hotels adding 10% or more service charge to their rates on top of the 7% govt tax looks to be a typical practice. Just some examples - Little Dix Bay, Frenchmans Cay, Ft Recovery add 10%; Peter Island Resort adds 11%; Oil Nut Bay adds 18%.

I think all the BVI villas we've stayed at just charged 7% govt tax but that's a small sample size.

Agreed, many or most BVI hotels add service charge. It can definitely add up, so one needs to compute the total price for lodging for sure and see what all is included. But of course if they charge service charge, if it is me, I don't give any extra tip to the maid.

The luxury tents are georgiuos. Jamie the manager showed us the tents a few weeks ago. Everyone in my group thought they were great. I think the term tent is a little bit of an understatement.

Oh for sure the term 'tent' is open to interpretation. We've stayed in one of the most expensive tents in the world, at Mombo Camp in Botswana...

A heads up about Little Dix..they add a service charge to bar tabs too..not right in my opinion as their prices are high to start with..17% on top of $300 a night can certainly add up..folks should always ask about that when booking..BTW I know of several villas that charge service charge on top..

We saw the tents last week and we too have been lucky to stay in a "tent" at Mombo. I can say that these are of the same caliber. They were beautiful.

No A/C but the wind is pretty strong at Keel Point most of the time. In fact, I think the noise from the wind flapping the roof and tent flaps would discourage me.

I agree with Murdock. Our group loves Josiah's Bay. We always stay at the Tamarind Club after our charter. Great atmosphere and awesome food. Close enough to Josiah's to walk or you can drive if you are not up for the walk.
