Hi all,

we are thinking of leaving Jost Van Dyke for Norman island and while sailing enroute, stopping thru Maho Bay, St. John to have a peek (might snorkel) without stepping ashore.

does anybody have any thoughts on the "legality" or lack thereof on this, since we technically wouldn't be checking into the USVI.

Thanks.

It's 100% illegal. Don't do it.

This will sound like blasphemy to a lot of people. Skip Jost, check into St John and spend a couple of days. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

Oh Capt Jay, you have been hitting the wrong end of Jost!

I hate choices! Diamond Cay and Maho Bay are two of our favorite anchorages. Maho Bay and Spring Bay on VG are my two favorite beaches. We spend a lot of time at Maho!

jmark, don't even risk it. Enforcement happens.

Cheers, RickG

A lot of things can " just happen" on charter that can suck the joy out the trip, but intentionally breaking international law would be a really foolish choice.

This pic of White Bay was on New Year's Eve, several years back. (I have pictures of the same people, the same day.) White Bay is not always this crowded, I promise.

The last few times that I have been down, there has been a USCG go-fast Black tRIB hanging out in the little bay just south of Sopers on St. john side. Brown Bay if I remember right.

Just sayin'

Definitely don't risk this detour to USVI without first clearing out of the BVI then proceeding "quickly" to USVI C&I once you're on a mooring ball at St John.

An interestinq legal detour is to anchor & snorkel at the cove on the south shore of Great Thatch Island. There was an NPT mooring at one time but I haven't seen it in many years.

Thanks for all your "heads up". Certainly don't want to spoil a sail trip. We've checked in and out several years ago w/o too much undue trouble, but in the interest of an "enroute" sail from Jost to Norman, we'll skip Maho this time. Is a beautiful place though.

Love the pictures Capt. Jay. Nothing like a crowd smile

Thanks.
