A long wait before flight. What to do?

A long wait before flight. What to do? - 01/29/2016 03:03 PM

We have a long wait (6hours) before our flight tomorrow and my husband is under the weather with bronchitis. Any ideas where we could go that would be restful for him? Don't mind paying to stay somewhere as we can't stay in our condo.

Thanks for any help
Christine

If you are in SXM go to the airport Club DJ <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/usflag.gif" alt="" />

I don't know that you want to sit there that long, but you could pay to use the Souliga Lounge at the airport. It is about $20 a person and includes light snacks, like meatballs and chicken wings, and soft drinks and wine (but not liquor or beer). They have TVs and internet. He could sit there in the lounge and you could do some shopping if you wanted to, as you can go in and out. If you're talking somewhere on the beach (although I'm not sure whether that's the definition of 'restful' or not), Karakter does have showers and internet and they will keep your carry on bags for you, but it is apt to be crowded there. As far as a hotel that would do a day pass, that I don't know. You might try calling Mary's Boon, or somewhere like that.

How much did it cost and how did you accomplish it?

I can't recall the actual price but I believe it was around $90.00. We just asked at the front desk. It was the same situation. The unit was at the end across from Sonesta and very basic but it had a couch and thats all I needed.

Go to the Dream Pool Bar at the Alegria Resort close to the airport. The bar is open, but there are not many people staying at the resort so it is very quiet there. There is a nice pool and a lovely ocean view so could prove very relaxing. Marty will appreciate your business. The resort may offer you a good deal for the day if you prefer A/C.

I may be in the minority here but I would not patronize a place that hurt so many by having their yearly vacation destination ripped out from under them.

Just my thoughts on that place....

Marty, the owner of the pool bar had nothing to do with the TS contracts being voided. Why penalize a business owner that suffered his own injustices from the likes of Sidhom?

My error...I saw Alegria and the hairs on my neck went up...

Ignore my comment please...

I understand your feelings because we lost our unit also but let's place blame where it belongs.

OK, let's not have this thread get totally off track. If anyone has any other suggestions for Christine, please post those.

What time of year was it? January?

End of Feb or beginning of March. I don't think this was a room that people would stay overnight as it was quite sparse

Island Gem-we have been here for 2 weeks and did walk by the pool at Alegria-it was green and filthy when we walked over last week. Don't know what the problem is and didn't ask to find out. We are going over for a party with friends next week and will check again.

Sorry to hear that John. Marty is really having a hard time with everything there. That resort had so much potential and now it is a pitiful sight.I was encouraging people to go there for a drink and relax as Marty needs all the business he can get there.

If it were me I would go to the Solouga (sp) lounge. Six hours isn't super long once you get checked in and through security etc. Plus you've got all that behind you and you can just relax in the comfy chairs. Just make sure your husband has a sweater because it's generally cooler in there.

Christine, hopefully you are home and comfortable now, and he is feeling better. Never fun to be sick on vacation and certainly worse on a hectic travel day. Please come back and let us know what you decided to do and how you made out....I hope it was good.

I do hope she comes back and lets us know what happened. Afterward, I realized she might not have been able to check her bags that early..
