Toppers By The Sea Sold

Toppers By The Sea Sold - 09/27/2016 11:42 PM

Thought you might want to know that this, along with the Flamingo pool bar, was sold to a gentleman from Los Angeles that has other restaurants in other Diamond Resorts. Sale took place July 1.

I'd sell too if I were him. After really liking this place, our last two visits were sad and were our last as all I remember was reheated prime rib and dried out cold Caribbean lobster.

Yes. Last May our Lobster wasn't the best either. Over cooked and mealy. And that was on Lobster night. Hopefully the new owners will do a better job, but only if they are hands on and not absentee owners. Have to admit some of the lunches off the menu had been pretty good.

Hope so. That has always been an irritation when dining there. It's the same water we drink out of the tap in our room at the Flamingo. It's a money making item for him but he doesn't realize it also shy's people away from dinning there because of that.

..now all they have to do is sell the restaurant and bar at Royal Palm to someone who gives a rat's a$$..

I think the Royal Palm's restaurant is still under the same ownership as their deli and food shop in the front of the resort. They have a long and unyielding contract. Both the restaurant and its bar are terrible and inconsistent. But no one can get rid of these owners. Too bad.

When we had breakfast there in early September the cash register receipt had the name "Wild Thyme" on it. The workers were still wearing "Topper's" Tee shirts and the menu hasn't changed.

Were you allowed to charge to your room or did you ask about it? Never could before with Toppers but I remember being able to do that before Toppers took the location. That would especially be nice at the pool bar.

A couple of times in the last two years they wouldn't take a regular charge card to pay for our bill because their machine wasn't working--a fact they had neglected to mention when we ordered. Now we just don't go there much (although the salads are good, I must admit).

Re: Toppers By The Sea Sold - 09/30/2016 09:57 PM

The charge machine not working could be due to the wifi connection that is troublesome for a lot of businesses on the island. I can't fault them for that. Who knows, it could have gone out after you ordered. That is why, as mentioned in another thread, it is always wise to have enough cash on you just in case this were to happen.

I completely agree . We always have enough cash to get us through the day just in case the wifi connections aren't working when we want to depart. It happens less frequently than it used to, but it does happen.

Carol, Not that we need to dine at "RP", we are leasing for a few days in late October. But the restaurant and bar suck??? That's to bad, the location is great! We'll write a trip report when we get the sand gravity thing going!! Anyone have pixx to post???

The restaurant and the bar at RP suck, yes. Or they have for years, yes. If you want, you can try it and see how it is. The view from the Upper View at RP is great of the bridge, IF you can find it open! We have often been there during REGATTA when it wasn't open. You can check with the front desk for their hours. As far as the restaurant, again, it has a lovely view out over the water. But do you ever hear anyone here talk about it? Goes to show you.. The last time we ate there--at Regatta, when the resort was totally full--there was ONE other table other than us for breakfast. The food was good enough (really hard to screw up breakfast!!), but it took way over an hour to get served.. Your mileage may vary.

Never cared for Topper's By The Sea and in all of our years have never bothered with Topper's, due to bad experiences at BY The Sea. Does anyone know if Latch is still working the pool bar? We love to visit with Latch! All of the amazing restaurants in SXM, never understood the "American" menu places, ah to each their own!

I completely agree, yet constantly see people asking where to get a New York style pizza. I always want to say "New York".
