Traffic - 01/05/2017 06:45 PM

Hey All,
How is traffic this Year? Specifically, the airport to Philipsburg? We arrive at 4 and have a 5:30 ferry. As long as we are there by 5:20 I know we can do it. Thanks for any current information.

What day of the week? It's been my experience that traffic on Friday in particular is horrendous. Saturday and Sunday not bad, other weekdays, traffic is generally bad, but not as horrible as Friday. Also, do you have to wait for bags? And how big a plane are you on? Those factor in to how long it will take for you to just get out of the airport..

The traffic is terrible at that time of the afternoon and with your landing at 4.00pm you will have a big problem getting that ferry at that time.

I hope it's not next Wednesday, 7 ships in port! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Yikes.gif" alt="" />

By the time you get through immigration and collect your bags it could be 4:30 or later. The taxi driver will probably know which way (causeway or bridge) is fastest. But the traffic is nasty at that time. Kenny would know best.

We are carrying on. I moved ashore last year so haven't been back to the island in 18 months. Thanks for the heads up on heavy cruise ship days. Those are the worst. I think we'll just spend the extra $ and fly over.

For the record, ferry from Great Bay is about $110 r/t and flights are $255 r/t and up.

cruise ships are light. yesterday (Wednesday there were 4) today (Thursday) only 1. many lines have chosen not to come to SXM (including Disney)

And what do you base that statement on. There are just as many cruise ships as in past years over a years time.

I never mind the cruise ship visitors. They add a lot of dollars to the local economy helping the infatructure that we all benefit from. Whether its from dollars the visitors spend directly or from port charges it all adds up.

Honestly, other than specific places like Sunset, cruise ship passengers have ZERO negative affect on stay-over visitors.

Maybe for the average tourist but I doubt the business owners and anyone else that benefits from the cruise industry feels like this.
