Does anyone know of anyone on the island that makes sicilian (square) pizza, its a thick crust pie,

Maybe Pizza Pasta Trattoria in Maho - inquire, otherwise it's L&B in Brooklyn.

Not really sacrilege. I too was originally from NY and Sicilian pizza is quite common in all 5 boroughs and outer counties although my personal favorite is the typical round pie. Unfortunately I can't answer the question, sorry

Bobcat was just at L&B last night friends of ours had a stopover before going to St Maarten so we took them there they said it was the best pizza they ever had, i guess we take it for granted with all the great pizza we have here in Brooklyn and Staten Island

It has been a few years but the last pizza I saw there was round and not that good.

Fat Tony's in Cupecoy has a deep-dish square pizza. It's decent quality, in my opinion. Had it many times.

Pizza Pasta in Maho is our fave, but it is round and thinner crust.
No square there.

Was not sure -Would not hurt to ask if they would accommodate.

I thought I read here that they closed? Not sure, as I've never been there, so maybe I'm thinking of somewhere else.

Thinking maybe of Tutta Pasta across from Jimbos? It's closed now and is one place I will miss, sort of remember Laluna?

Still open as far as I know. I was never impressed and knowing a little about your feelings for "Italian" restaurants, I don't see it being on your radar.

Oh, I take it back. Yes, I have been there. Once, several years ago. NOT impressed. I had pizza, Eric had pasta, the place was crowded and hot and neither one of our meals was good..

Just goes to show you - we can all look at the same things and see them so differently. We've only been there once or twice but we quite enjoyed the food. I did think it was very close and extremely warm but I guess about what you'd expect in an Italian restaurant in the Caribbean. Too hot for me, though.

JD..and Carol. I strongly disagree with your view of Pizza Pasta. We alo go there at least a couple of times during our stay...especially since we are right across the street. Every year, I get the baked lasagna...and truly think it is the best lasagna I have ever had...ANYWHERE. Also, their pizza isn't bad at all....in fact it's the best in the Maho area. Is Pizza Pasta a fancy place??? Easy answer...NO. Is it a bit tight inside...yes....since there is only a limited amount of space...but it is probably one of the best tasting restaurants on the island...run by a great family. Service has never been a problem... and when you take into consideration of the price, one will be hardpressed to find a better value for a fun, delicious Italian meal. One can go down the alley, to LaRosa2....or go to IZI....or Luna Rosa.....and spend triple the amount of money...and would be hard pressed to get a better meal than you would have at Pizza Pasta. After all, it is one of the islands ''original'' restaurants, still run by the same family. They must be doing something right to have been in business for at least the close to thirty years we have been going!!!!!!!

I guess that's why they have chocolate and vanilla. I went there for the first, and last, time last fall. We got two pies to go, and both of us thought both of them were mediocre. We threw out the leftovers.

It is kind of like the lolos in Grand Case, some love them and others don't care for them. Pizza Pasta must appeal to a lot of people to continue to stay open, it is just not to my taste in more ways than one. Glad you enjoy it.

BTW, Carol and I do not always agree on restaurants. Three that come to mind are Pizza Galley, Izi and Bavaria where we are pretty far apart.

Went to Pizza Galley for the first time in a few years and iit was very good - for SXM pizza. Love the remodel of the place, ate in the bar area watching hockey and also the big fish underneath!

Funny - I was just about to relate your experiences there the evening after we spent the day at Anse Marcel. Do you have a pizza place you would recommend?

We've never really thought of the island as a 'pizza place' though there used to be a place in the marina at Marigot that we liked, along with a place on Front St. probably thirty years ago or maybe more. I've had Dreams four cheese pizza which was delicious and two out of three times we had it, we also enjoyed pizza take out from Fat Tony's. We don't do Italian or pizza a lot on island. I enjoy the pizza at Kakao, used to love the pizza at Drive In Pizza in Sandy Ground, but haven't been there in a while. We go to the Boat Bar for pizza sometimes, because it's close and on the ocean. I probably would love the pizza at Dreams, as I love most anything that Bruno makes, but we usually make our lunch there the big meal of the day, so hate to 'waste' it on pizza! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Smile.gif" alt="" />

The pizza at Dreams is indeed delicious, but I'm like you and usually eat one of the specials when we're there for a long lunch.

Carol -- we have enjoyed the pizza at Driftwood although on occasion they have overcooked it. I lean on the well done side typically but on two occasions it was on the edge of what I like and we were already back at BSV so too lazy to go back.

It's not great there, but it's close, and if we have it there, often it's the first night when we're really tired and eat it watching the sunset. Hard to be too upset, watching our first sunset on island! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Smile.gif" alt="" />

Le Piment was always good for thin crust pizza.

We have not yet had to our taste a good pizza... But if you have to eat pizza on Island, domino pizza is not at all mentioned, and as far as were concerned, not to bad. Not to good, but we are from new York, and eating pizza anywhere else is really tough... To each his own, and have learned!!! one mans candy is one mans fruit. If that's how it goes... We hardly listen to people that recommend resturants because depending on their taste, could be a horror... We try on our own...

I agree with Ed. Love Pizza Pasta. I have never had pizza so I can't comment on that but for value & service it can't be beat. I agree that the lasagna is THE best as is the chicken Parmesan with the eggplant. My favorite pizza is new this year. It is made at La Patrona at Simpson Bay Resort but can only be acquired through room service or at the beach bars. I guess no one is suppose to know the pizza is made at La Patrona.

OK I have to stop this - Pizza Italy across from IZI. Run by 2 Italian women; one is from Sicily the other from Milan.
The chef (Sicilian woman)is only in St. Martin till May I believe then goes back to Italy and then there isn't any pasta until she returns. But they still make the pizza. They have many varieties of pizza. I had the Margheritha pizza $10 and it was delicious. Now the pasta - they don't have every type of pasta known to man - what they do have is 2 or 3 chef specials each night. Wife had gnocci in vodka sauce and she couldn't get enough of it.
So, square pizza's - no. Still round and a nice size.
OK one more thing - check out the Tiramisu!

I agree. Pizza Italy is our favorite. Always plenty of parking. A little expensive for the size, but worth it.

And, why has no one mentioned Mexican Pizza at the Taco Bell in Philipsburg?

It is the BOMB!!
