June 2018 Trip Report #4 - 06/22/2018 11:05 PM

On Tuesday, we got in the car to go to the beach, and it started raining! We decided to go to Carrefour first for soda and wine, to check out the weather. We took some pictures through Cupecoy and by the time we get back to Mullet, the weather looks OK. We were kind of surprised, as a guy came and met us at the car and carried our bags to the chairs. Unfortunately his chairs were kind of perched going downhill toward the ocean, so it wasn't that comfortable sitting in the chairs, as they were slanted downhill, but Eric managed to suffer through..

When we arrived, it was calm and quiet.

Four different cats came in, with a bunch of people

, but left eventually, and it is once again calm and beautiful

We got chicken and ribs from Rosie's. Rosie is working under a couple of umbrellas, but doesn't have any building. She said that the building survived the hurricane, but someone bulldozed it afterward. They are still in court over that. She can't cook french fries and Eric didn't order salad. It was merely OK, as the ribs weren't cooked well enough and were tough. The chicken was good though. Sorry, no pictures! Hope they are able to rebuild. There is a portapotty off to the left as you face the beach, but we didn't use it. We wanted to go when there was a ship in, as we have heard that Rosie does not cook ribs and chicken when there are no ships in.

On that day, there was a HUGE cliff going down into the water, although it doesn't really look like it

, so I had to get help getting out of the water.

After we got back home to Beachside, we noticed that there was a cruise ship excursion down at El Zafiro with a bunch of people there. One couple walked down the beach and wanted to see our unit, so we showed them around and they seemed interested in coming back to SXM to stay.

We watched the ships leaving

and headed to Pineapple Pete for dinner

We started out with some great garlic bread with cheese

(There were more slices to begin with, but we scarfed a couple down before I took the picture! grin)

For some reason, I had a hankering for lasagna

and it was really nice

Eric had grouper

Afterward, we went to the Dunes Casino, thinking there were table games, which turned out NOT to be true. We then headed back to Hollywood, which apparently is the busiest casino these days, since Casino Royale and Starz are not open. After a relatively short but expensive stay at the casino, we headed home to bed...

Just as a heads up. When we encounter sloping loungers we kick sand and build up the foot rests and then they are level. Sometimes there are rocks to help out the foundation.

Mullet Bay looks nice as does the food.

We did move some sand around to get the cooler somewhat level, but the slope for the chairs was pretty steep...

Mullet looks great to me, too, but that may have something to do with absence making the heart grow fonder, no? 😊😊

We stayed a week on Beacon Hill Rd the end of May and stopped and played the Black Jack machine at Dunes Casino. It has the individual chairs and it was almost like playing with a dealer just cheaper.

As we were leaving the Dunes, after finding no tables, I asked the guy sitting there at the desk about the sign at Starz saying there were table games at the Dunes. He said they took them OUT a couple of months ago, so I guess there were actual table games before.. We had been really excited about there being table games so close to us. Of course, based on our experience at Hollywood, maybe we should be glad they DIDN'T have table games there!

I haven't made it to Mullet yet, and it looks lovely. More nice pictures!

Pat--knew you would love the Mullet pics also... That cliff was pretty rough though.

Could you move the chairs further back. Looks like Erik was ready to side off forwards.

That whole area was at a very steep slope, so we couldn't really move the chairs back. We survived.. grin

Thanks for another fine report and pics. Have you checked out Port d'Plainsant Casino(Princess)?

No, actually, we haven't gone by there. The sign out by the road for PDP is in tatters, so I wasn't sure if the casino is even open.
