Looking at new dining experiences/fun

Looking at new dining experiences/fun - 09/09/2018 03:48 PM

Hi, everyone it’s been a while since I’ve posted but I have been following all the SXM posts on TTOL. With our vacation in the not too distant future I’m looking at some new places to eat and have fun. Any comments regarding the following places would be appreciated if you’ve ventured to them. Thanks.
Emilio’s – Dutch Cul de Sac
Fat Turtle
Jamtillean Reggae bar & restaurant

Is Soprano's open?

Sopranos is gone. Jamtillean is pretty good, nice location. No comment on Emilio's

Jamtillean, located in the old cafe by the bay location, exceeded our expectations. Attentive service and terrific food. Will be going there again on our next trip.

Not familiar with the others, but I personally would not recommend Emilio's. I expected food somewhat comparable to Temptation, but I was disappointed. It wasn't BAD, just I expected high end cuisine, and it was not that, to me. The location, especially in the main room, is lovely. Our service was very lacking, but I put that down to being seated next to two large tables, which monopolized the attention of the servers. I do not expect to go back. However, if you have previously liked the restaurants run by the Watheys, then you might like it.

Louise,

We haven't been on island since April 2017 (thanks to that b itch Irma....) but that trip we went to Melange adjacent to the Princess Casino and had a very nice evening. I thought the service was excellent for our party of six. You can order individually from the a la carte menu or you can order from their table service grill (there's a name for it which escapes me at the time...) and I believe the table grill may have been all you can eat but honestly, not too sure about that now since it's been a while. Anyhow, we had a great time - food was good and libations were strong. The company was awesome!

Hi, Carol. We never went to Temptations nor do I think any restaurants run by the Watheys. The place looked lovely and they have several YouTube videos showing steel bands as well as Latin night which made the restaurant appealing to me.

Hello, Pat and thank you too for the suggestion. We will be a large group for the first half of our trip although unsure how many times, if at all we will all dine together outside of BSV. David and I are looking forward to returning as we haven't been since April of 2017 either because of Irma.

Elaine -- too bad about Soprano's. We were hoping to celebrate Halloween there rather than driving down to Bucs or Red Piano. Scubaman, looking forward to Jamtillean.

Melange would be a good choice for a large group. They are still doing the all you can eat table grill.

Louise--Huh, don't know about steel drum bands or Latin night. That certainly doesn't equate with fine dining either, so perhaps I was just looking for the wrong thing. Their prices are very much in line with fine dining though.

Wasn't it Emilio's that Lesley raved about? It sounded good so I've added it to my list. Should i delete it?

Looks like the opinions are even. Give it a try and make your own opinion.

OK, didn't know that. By all means, try it if you want. I won't be back, but everyone likes different things.

If you're talking about Emilio's, from Simpson Bay, go to the roundabout by Mark's and continue going 'straight' through the roundabout. Emilio's (and Rainforest Adventure) is about a half mile up on the left. BIG parking lot.

Louise, this is on our list to try in Oct/Nov:

NEWLY OPENED (after Irma)
Be Kool Restaurant and Creperie
du Lagoon
Phone La Petite Auberge des Iles 0590 87 59 23
Marigot Marina Royale

Fine dining close to BSV you cannot go wrong with Moulin Fou!

I'm excited for the changes coming to the Marina in Marigot. Sarafina's is now there as well.

I don't think Sarafina's has opened yet. We looked a week ago and they were closed then, and no updates to their FB paje. Believe me, I'm waiting to get the first decent (IMHO) loaf of bread since Irma!

Bakery only to open in September, and the rest hopefully the first quarter of 2019.

My Niece was at Emillo's last week food was good than she saw mice running around the floor. The waiter said there is nothing they can do about them they are in a field. I was there in August did not see any mice.

Mice, rats and cockroaches are just part of the carribean experience.
