You like the new plates?

I don't care one way or another. I do think it was stupid to change it though. If you must, it should have been SXM STRONG.

That would send a better message.

I never paid that much attention to the plates--had they been the same for a long time?

They change color and design every year, but they always said the friendly island. They have to change because they can't figure out stickers. Only way to know if someone has paid up is to look at the color of the plate!

I wouldn't think stickers would be that difficult! duh

That is what I was thinking too. And less costly.

But the brother in law doesn't make stickers, just license plates!

Yes we have to buy new license plates every year for $12 plus the road tax of $125. If they offered stickers, they couldn't charge $12 for $2 plates. The used plates make very popular souvenirs though. I donate mine to the animal rescue booth at Chesterfields and the cruisers buy them and that helps the shelter work.

That's great to know! We will purchase a plate at Chesterfields if it supports the shelter. Is there parking at Chesterfields, or do you have to park someplace like Bobby's?

Parking at Chesterfield's is free for 2 hours if you eat there.

I don't think so. The security booth just opened and it has a sigh that says "no validation"

So they have their own parking lot, but charge you to use it? Thanks for all the replies. We may just find out in April.

The parking lot belongs to Dock Maarten Marina, not Chesterfields. There was no charge after the hurricane because the booth was damaged badly. Now it's repaired and the gates and security guard are there.
