ROXXY BEACH

This was on their facebook page and looks like they may be open or very close to opening. Scroll for a recent video.

They say April 18 is when they are opening. Looking forward to it.

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/08/2019 11:44 PM

I actually am looking forward to checking it out also. Those at Royal Palm, whenever they reopen, will probably beg to differ, depending on how loud and late the music is..

Surrounded by security? Not for me thanks.

Sorry, security??

I followed the link and there's a picture of their security staff, about 10 big guys. Really?

I guess they don't want any fighting over front row chairs! jester

I like the addition of security. Especially at night.

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/09/2019 02:47 AM

I have no problem with security. No reason it has to be intrusive.

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/09/2019 03:59 AM

Better not try to beat the check at this place. You might wind up in Simpson Bay!

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/09/2019 04:10 AM

as of last wednesday...the fence around the property came down....and they were working on the parking lost in front. If this venture is anything like Kon Tiki....it will be very nice....BUT very expensive. Simpson Bay has really evolved as a ''hot spot'' day and night.

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/09/2019 01:16 PM

Elaine--I have absolutely NO problem with lots of security. Open until late? Lots of security is a GREAT idea, as far as I'm concerned. Keeps the roaches away.

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/09/2019 02:15 PM

Why would anyone NOT want security? In New York we call them bouncers! Every popular place has them....
Posted By: BillandElaine

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/09/2019 02:41 PM

I guess for the later crowd. And of course at the gate to park your car. To me, the photo itself felt like they expected trouble. We do intend to go there as our friend Max is the bar manager. He's the one throwing the bottles. Cocktails at least will be amazing, and probably come with a show. Location sucks though.

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/09/2019 02:55 PM

They are promoting Roxy Beach (Kim Sha) on Maho Beach...? (With the guy tossing the alcohol bottles around). Just thought that was odd. It's deceiving for those that don't know the location and go there expecting to see the planes coming in.
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/09/2019 03:04 PM

Like I said, I think it's proactive, to keep the roaches from appearing to begin with. Definitely security in the parking lot after night is a good thing. Possibly the other reason for the security is to make sure that only those going there park in their lot, as parking is definitely at a premium in that area.
Posted By: BillandElaine

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/09/2019 03:52 PM

There is already a gate at the entrance to the parking lot manned by security..

OK, thanks.

Leslie--sorry, I know you're a VIP too!! duh grin Thanks for the report. How was the parking???

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/19/2019 04:43 PM

I'm really just not familiar with this area..is it near the Greenhouse restaurant? Looks also to have good parking.
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/19/2019 04:56 PM

Not really. The Greenhouse is on Billy Folly Road. This is on the main drag in Simpson Bay, RIGHT next to Royal Palm. RP is immediately before the Simpson Bay bridge, on the left hand side, as you are traveling toward the airport. With the size of the place, I wonder how the parking will work in reality, as there is very little parking in that area in general.

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/19/2019 05:07 PM

Roxxy - shmoxxy! When all is said and done but particularly if you want to actually enjoy going into the water, it’s still Kimsha Beach, call it whatever they will. The food and drink may be the draw but it’s still Kimsha!
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/19/2019 05:18 PM

laugh Got that!! I don't recall that I've EVER gone in the water at Kim Sha or Royal Palm. (Which is guess is still Kim Sha?? Dunno..) I will be going there for the food and drink, not going into the water, for sure.

Ok, thx. So the Simpson Bay Bridge is the one where the Yacht Club is? And I think I am right, that is right next to the bridge. Spent so much time on the French side that I now need to get out and explore more....

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/19/2019 05:51 PM

Kim Sha is actually a very nice beach and typically very calm. Went there often when we stayed at Atrium last year for the first time. Doesn't hurt that Buccaneer Beach Bar, Greenhouse and now Roxxy Beach are all there to take advantage of if you so desire. We're staying at an apartment across from BBB starting next Wednesday so I'm looking forward to checking it out. dance

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/19/2019 06:33 PM

It's just that the Nature Foundation has been giving cautions for the water quality there.
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/19/2019 06:34 PM

CaribLee--the beach itself is pretty, but there are way too many small boats (without holding tanks) and yachts out there in that bay, for me to have any desire to swim in that water.

bran--yes, Simpson Bay Bridge is where the Yacht Club is..

I've hung out in the Buccaneer chairs while hubby tried to drown himself getting laser sailing time in at Kim Sha. That was back when there was a shower on the beach where Mirian & Pieter rented kayaks and stuff. It was all wiped out with Irma.

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/19/2019 06:50 PM

I have been in the water on Kim Sha Beach and am still here to talk about it. 😊 There are many swimmers there daily and no problems encountered. Don't make a habit of swollowing the water. It was deemed as safe as the water in the Nettle Bay area for several years. It is not my favorite beach, but I think it gets bashed much too often. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and that is mine. As for Roxxy Beach, I am looking forward to trying it in the near future. It is another business for the island and that can't be all bad. If it helps the economy in these trying times, I think it is a good thing !

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/19/2019 06:58 PM

Bran, its kind of the other end of the beach from the Green House, and the parking lot seemed to be pretty decent size as far as parking lots go on island. It looked pretty nice from the outside.

Not for swimming .

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/19/2019 07:43 PM

And that security team isn't all at once! lol....it's probably full timers, part timers, day shift and night shift just for the picture.

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/19/2019 07:47 PM

Leslie--great to hear on the parking!! Wow for once, a place in Simpson Bay with adequate parking!! circle

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/19/2019 07:50 PM

A very easy walk from the Greenhouse area. There appreaed to be a rather large and gated parking area. Pretty much between Greenhouse/Atrium and Royal Palm.

I believe Kim Sha is a somewhat natural beach and the beach near Royal Palm/Roxxy Beach is more man-made. Regardless, with the number of boats in that area, I would do no more than wade in that area of beach.

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/19/2019 08:50 PM

And don’t forget all the run off water, not to mention ‘other’ water that runs into that beach area. Friends of ours used to keep their boat in that area and the owner told us a funny story about how they rued the day they fell in trying to get from their dink to their boat as a wave came in. She swore it took her three showers to get the smell out of her hair. A long time ago but a lot more development these days, too.

Lots of people swim there all the time with no ill effects but I’m just saying I wouldn’t and I’m certainly not suggesting others should or should not follow my lead.

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/19/2019 09:18 PM

Do NOT swim at Kim Sha Beach. E coli rampant.

Having said that, we will try it, probably once. $5 beer! Folks who were there said the service and everything was wonderful ( as I expected) but everything was very expensive. Enjoyed drinks, but went somewhere else for dinner.

Very loud tonight. Can hear it through closed windows at TheVillas. Wonder how late it will continue......

According to their website, I believe they are open until 1 AM every night.

Just checked their fb page: week days 11:30, weekends 12 - 12:30

I honestly doubt stated opening and closing times mean much on the island. If there is business to be had, they will stay open and if not, they will likely close early.

Yep. That is the way a lot of island establishments operate.

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/21/2019 03:50 PM

Elaine, prices comparable to Dreams, or higher than that?
Posted By: ruralcarrier

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/21/2019 04:08 PM

Menu but with no prices on their website. If they are at $30 for 2 chairs, and umbrella and supposedly towels, I would guess food prices would not be inexpensive either.
I think I read the double cut ribeye (for two) was $85.

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/21/2019 04:29 PM

Not my kind of menu I would want to order from on the beach. Lots of choices but not my lunch beach preference. Didn't see they were charging 30 for loungers. Did i miss something. Clicked on the day bed picture but nothing opened up.
Posted By: ruralcarrier

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/21/2019 04:52 PM

That was mentioned elsewhere as was the price of the steak. Prices may change as it will depend on once the newness wears off if they stay busy.

As I stated a month or so ago, Bikini Beach was also getting $30 for 2 loungers and an umbrella and you also got the French attitude that came with having brought a small cooler.
Posted By: SXMScubaman

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/21/2019 05:20 PM

Thanks. I knew about Bikini and the other 2 charging 30. French attitude comes at a high cost. LOL

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/21/2019 07:14 PM

The prices are very expensive . A good deal would be the Big Rib Eye Steak for two for $ 85.00 .
Posted By: BillandElaine

Re: Roxxy Beach Open? - 04/21/2019 07:52 PM

More comparable to Le Shore from what I'm hearing. Crazy prices.

That sounds do-able!

I've had a wonderful double rib eye meal at Rainbow in Grand Case. Not inexpensive either, but they didn't charge for chairs! And the beach dude does shots with you all day....lol
