Provisioning Sunsail charter out of Fort Louis

Provisioning Sunsail charter out of Fort Louis - 05/11/2019 02:32 PM

Hello:

I've not chartered and provisioned a bareboat sail charter out of SXM since before hurricanes so wondering what the best options are for self-provisioning. Sunsail is located at Fort Louis - I'm not planning to rent a car so appreciate any thoughts/options specifically relative to provisioning a sailboat at the marina. Essentially, I'm asking what is the best store to pick up everything (or best stores - one stop is always better than multiple stops) including staples (paper products, cereals, breads, etc.) as well as fresh vegetables, meats, cheeses, and of course, wine and liquor.

I'm not too concerned about the time involved so I can go further away if necessary. Just trying to assess my options. Also, how easy is it to walk from marina to Marigot area for small add-on items (few bottles of wine, bread, etc.) after the initial provisioning.

Lastly, do days of week or time of day matter at all? (ie: Sunday vs Friday...)

Much thanks for any help!

Best,

Kevin

Others have pointed us at SuperU in Marigot, as well.

For booze, we’re planning this for our trip in a couple weeks: https://www.boozeitup-sxm.com/. A 47-page list of products, prices look good and free delivery.

Hey thanks for those responses! Much appreciated - Mile High enjoy your trip - we’re shoving off on June 1 so just a few weeks away for us as well! Looking forward to being back!

Awesome, Breck — have a great trip! We shove off June 1 from Marigot, too. If we don’t cross paths on the water that week, we could always compare trip reports over a beverage at Fatty’s this summer :-)

We are bareboating out of Marigot with Dream Yacht Charters June 13th for 10 days. I heard Booze It Up was not delivering to French side for free.

That's funny! We have recently relocated out of Colorado to Park City, Utah to avoid the Denver/Breck commute every weekend - suspect I should update my profile. Otherwise, I'd certainly share a slice and beer at Fatty's!

Its been since before Irma/Maria that we've sailed but I've spent a lot of time in all the Leewards. This will be my first trip originating out of SXM but I've spent plenty of time there. We've not spent much time thinking about this trip since we just booked it this week as a fairly last minute 14 day trip.

I've got a few questions for you - I'm assuming you're sailing with Sunsail or Moorings? Curious as to what islands you're planning to travel to - whether and our day to day whims will drive our decisions but I suspect we'll spend less time around SXM and more time around Anguilla, St Barths, Statia and possibly Saba. Honestly, I've sailed to and know those islands better than SXM which I've historically found a bit too crowded but who knows? However, I really don't know how the hurricanes impacted all those islands and SXM and changed things. Much of our plans will probably just get developed by talking to other cruisers we meet.

Best,

Kevin
