Trip Report 2

Trip Report 2 - 05/24/2019 01:26 AM

As long as the board don’t mind me posting regularly as I remember it then I will proceed. Wife albeit very tired, speech slightly better and to the poster who implied she is one tough cookie, you just have no idea. Wants to make everyday count, regardless of the consequences. Her motto is make everyday work whatever happens until is just doesn’t.

So have a list of places to visit not having really ever done the Simpson Bay Area and visited tonight “Nowhere Special”. Very nice indeed. Pretty outdoor seating. Lovely, gentle non pushy service. Great Bean soup, Johnny cakes and avocado dip...biggest glass almost tumbler size of White Zinfandel for $5.00, and had the best homemade bread pudding. Didn’t want too much to eat and we had guitar entertainment. Really lovely and extremely reasonable.
Found also Palapa Restaurant and they have done a superb job with several different eating and drink areas. Will book next week.
Off to bed.

As long as she continues to do well, your wife is an inspiration. Enjoy and appreciate every moment. Re Palapa Grill, my DH said he had one of the tastiest steaks he’s ever had there a few weeks back. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening.

Thx Pat, appreciate it. I’m now also wondering if in previous years talking about the Yacht Club for breakfast, I have gone to the wrong place. The one I have been to before is just over the bridge on the left, in fact the very first place over the bridge I think and yet tonight I thought I saw again on the left a sign saying Yacht Club but you had to go through security control as there was a pole barrier to let you in. Which one is it please?

The Simpson Bay Yacht Club Restaurant that most of us are speaking about in reference to incredible Bloody Marys and very good breakfasts is the one on the left immediately after the bridge. The parking lot is small and as you enter and pass through by the bar you can sit almost adjacent to where the draw bridge opens to watch the yachts pass through at their appointed times. Pretty sure this is the onevyouve been going to. The other area you mentioned is a private yacht club entrance - Isle de Sol maybe? - and while I could be mistaken, I think the entrance there is restricted. I’m really bad with both names and directions.....but I mean well.

The St. Maarten Yacht Club is the one close to the bridge. It is known for watching the yachts coming through the bridge and good breakfasts, happy hours and other meals as well. This is probably the one you want The Simpson Bay Yacht Club is further along the road close to the Scotia Bank. There are condos in there and some restaurants as well. Some like ZeeBest for breakfast there. Continue to enjoy your trip!

Day by day reporting is just fine! So great to hear 'on the spot' reporting! clapping

Remind me again, while we're into directions, where is Nowhere Special? I was thinking it was right by the airport, but maybe not?

Re the day by day reporting, there are those among us who, if they don't report daily - or at least every other day - just can't keep all the details straight. I speak from absolute experience here.....so please, Bran, keep the reports coming as your time and inclination allows. clapping clapping

Carol, it was in the dark but on the left on Simpson Bay. Coming the other way, first passed Skipjacks and further down on the right came upon Nowhere Special and then found Palapa. Confused? Don’t blame you, coz I am. Will look today and get back to you exactly where it is.
So now at El Zafira having a good breakfast and will check out BSV. Two more items wanted to see, so progressing well. Wife certainly better but just shaken up somewhat. She is legally blind so the shock I believe to her system was overwhelming and thank you everyone for your very kind words and thoughts.
Going to walk a little on the beach and then go over and check out another area and then end up in Simpson Bay. Some clothes shopping and general good relaxing time had by all. Again found the service here in restaurants and now at Zafira gentle and non-rushed. Met Wally the Barman here who made a great Bushwacker.....

Nowhere special is right next to theYacht Club. So went around Mary’s Boon and then Karactar.... filled up with gas and think I got done as never filled up on the Dutch side before and paid $41.00 for around 8 gallons. Guy admitted that it’s also one for one on the French side and about 20 cents cheaper per gallon. Oh well.
Now at Skipjacks right on the water and ordered bushwacker and BBC. Weather windy and cloudy... who cares! Considering French Ludos for tonight. Anyone been recently as not so much into fusion food but see they do a potato soup for my Mrs as happier with liquid food at present.
Lovely day in Paradise.
